The Sims 4: Emotional deaths explained

The-Sims-4-emotional-deaths

There are three types of emotional deaths in The Sims 4: death by Hysteria, death by Embarrassment, and death by Anger. These are all very intense emotions that can make your Sim’s heart stop.

Let’s see how you can trigger emotional deaths in The Sims 4.

Death by Hysteria in The Sims 4

Sims-4-Death-by-Hysteria

To cause Death by Hysteria in The Sims 4, have your Sim watch comedy shows, tell jokes and take a bubble bath. Make sure they live in a nicely decorated house.

All the positive buffs will add up making them Playful and Very Playful. If the Very Playful moodlet remains active for too long, your Sim will get Hysterical and die of Hysteria.

You read that right. Too much laughter can kill your Sim.

Death by Embarrassment in The Sims 4Sims-4-Embarrassed-from-failing-to-rebuild-trust

To trigger Death by Embarrassment in The Sims 4, you need to create a set of terrible circumstances that will make your Sim feel really Embarrassed. This emotion evolves into Very Embarrassed and then Mortified.

If the Mortified emotion is prolonged, your Sims will die of extreme embarrassment.

Examples of embarrassing situations include:

  • Walking in the bathroom when another Sim is doing their business
  • A Sim peeing themselves in public
  • Awkward social interactions, especially if your Sim has the Socially Awkward trait
  • Failed romantic interactions, especially if your Sim is Unflirty
  • Rejected marriage proposals
  • Getting caught cheating or confessing to cheating
  • Failed mischief interactions

For example, if a teenager gets caught pulling pranks at school, they’ll instantly get the Embarrassed moodlet. If a stink capsule goes off while the Embarrassed buff is active, they’ll experience Death by Stink Capsule.

⇒ Fun Fact:

  • Shameless Sims cannot get Embarrassed.

Death by Anger in The Sims 4

Sims-4-Very-Angry-Sim

Death by Anger is triggered by very intense events that cause your Sim to become Angry. These include but are not limited to betrayal, cheating, fighting with other Sims, having noisy neighbors, and so on.

Extreme Anger causes death by Cardiac Explosion.

Sims that have the Hot-Headed trait have much higher chances of dying of Anger than other Sims. These Sims tend to get Angry quickly, rile up other Sims, and become Angry when targeted with Mischief.

They will get +2 Anger from having noisy neighbors.

What’s the fastest way to cause Death by Anger in The Sims 4?

The fastest way to cause Death by Anger in The Sims 4 is to give your Sim the hot-headed trait and make them catch their spouse cheating on them. Then, make another Sim use mean interactions on them.

Have your Sim declare the mean townie as their enemy. By this time, your Sim should be enraged.

Make someone be mean to your Sim again. That should be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

To add more drama to your gameplay, have a townie woohoo with your Sim’s spouse right in their marriage bed.

You can also use Angry paintings to make Sims angry.

If your Sim is pursuing an Acting career, they can get angry at will.

High-maintenance Sims will often die of rage when things get out of their control.

Werewolves are immune to Death by Anger

Werewolves live in a constant state of Fury. When Fury reaches its maximum potential, your Sim will turn into a rampaging werewolf.

However, extreme Fury should not cause your werewolf’s heart to explode. Werewolves are immune to Death by Anger.

If that happens, this is clearly a bug caused by one of your mods. Werewolf Fury death is a glitch by one of your mods conflicting with the game.

How do you stop emotional deaths in The Sims 4?

The key to stopping emotional deaths in The Sims 4 is to reduce the intensity of your Sim’s emotions. To do that, have your Sim take a quick shower and then spend some time away from the source of extreme emotion.

If you’re not opposed to modding your game, you can disable emotional deaths with MCCC. Navigate to Allow Emotional Deaths and disable this option.

What is the rarest death in The Sims 4?

Emotional deaths are the rarest deaths in The Sims 4. Of the three types of emotional deaths that Simmers can trigger, Death by Hysteria is the rarest of them all.

To trigger Death by Hysteria, you need to get your Sim in a Very Playful mood and make them laugh until they drop dead.

Can Sims die from being terrified in The Sims 4?

Sims cannot die from being terrified in The Sims 4. The Scared moodlet doesn’t evolve into an extreme emotion that causes instant death.

However, in The Sims 2, Sims can die from being terrified.

You can try to bring dead Sims back to life

Dying from intense emotions doesn’t necessarily mean your Sims are gone for good. If you keep their urn on the lot, they’ll return as ghosts.

You can also try to convince the Grim Reaper to spare your dead Sims by giving him a Death Flower. Or you can use Ambrosia to resurrect them.

⇒ Fun Fact:

Did you know you can influence your Sim’s emotions by having them drink a cup of tea, blowing bubbles, or having them wear an Animal Hat?

For example, if you have the Digital Deluxe version, you can use the Angry Lion to get Sims angry.

You can also use emotional aura items to change your Sim’s emotions.

Have fun playing The Sims 4!

Learn more about Sim Deaths

If emotional deaths don’t really appeal to you, you can trigger death by starvation, electrocution, overexertion, meteorite, fire, Pufferfish, Cowplant, or drowning.

Other potentially deadly activities include drinking Beetle Juice, sniffing a Death Flower bouquet, rock climbing, using the Research Machine, relaxing in the sauna, using a vending machine, opening a Murphy Bed, or making a wish at the Wishing Well.

If you have Seasons, Sims can freeze to death, get heatstroke, or get struck by lightning.

The Sims 4 universe is full of angry flies, poisonous bugs, pets infected with Rabid Rodent Fever, and revengeful Mother Plants.

By the way, spellcasters can die of Magic Overload and vampires can burn to a crisp from sun exposure.

If your Sims live in the countryside, angry rabbits and chickens can attack and kill them.

If you want to get rid of teenagers, you’ve got two options: Death by Stink Capsule or Urban Myth.

Well, if your Sims have managed to escape all these dangers, they can’t escape Old Age.

Or maybe they can if you disable this feature.

Happy Simming!
