Your Sims can die from using the Research Machine at the University. To cause Death by Research Machine, have your Sim use the machine for a long period of time and contribute their own knowledge to it.

Contributing too much knowledge to the Research Machine can get your Sims killed.

Before that happens, your Sim will get Dazed. This moodlet indicates your Sim’s brain is getting overloaded.

Death by Research Machine occurs due to extreme mental draining. The machine scans your Sim’s brain to extract knowledge draining all the energy in the process.

If you read the object description for the Research Machine, you’ll notice there’s a note that warns about the possibility of experiencing premature death.

In other words, the game clearly warns you about the possibility of getting your Sims killed when using the Research Machine.

How to prevent Death by Research Machine

If you want to avoid Death by Research Machine in The Sims 4, cancel all the queued interactions with the machine. Stop any intellectual endeavors until the Dazed moodlet disappears.

If you continue using the machine, your Sim’s fate is sealed.

Well, if you’re curious to watch how this machine drains the life out of your Sim’s brain and body, here’s where you can find it.

Where can I find the Research Machine in The Sims 4?
