To make your Sims drown, make sure they cannot get out of the water. Drowning occurs when your Sims’ energy is depleted after swimming for long hours on end. They’ll become so exhausted they will pass out and drown.
You can tell that a Sim has drowned by the puddles their ghost leaves around when moving. These ghosts are afraid of water.
Keep in mind that you cannot make mermaids drown for obvious reasons.
Sims will desperately try to get out of the water to avoid drowning. Put a fence or a wall around the pool to prevent them from getting out of the water.
If you have Get Famous installed, Sims can drown in the Luminary’s Exotic Water Garden if they jump in when the water is full of hungry fish.

It takes several Sim hours for your Sims to drown. They can swim for hours on end before they get exhausted and drown. It usually takes between 30-40 in-game minutes for your Sims to pass out and drown.
How do you make a Sim drown faster?
To make a Sim drown faster, send them to swim when they’re already a bit tired. Then control them on fast-forward to speed up the process. Keep in mind that if your Sims are already very tired, you won’t be able to make them swim.
The swim button is greyed out and the game says that your Sim is too tired to swim.
