The Sims 4 Q&A: Can Sims Swim in Ponds?

can sims swim in ponds

Watching your Sims swim is one of the most relaxing things you can do while playing the Sims 4. You can almost feel the water gliding on your skin.

But there’s a catch: Sims can’t swim in any body of water. In this guide, we’ll take a closer look at this matter and answer one question that’s been on players’ mind for a long time.

Can Sims swim in a pond?

Sims cannot swim in ponds on lots. They can’t swim in any body of water made using the pond tool. But if you place a lot in a body of water instead of making a body of water on the lot, your Sims can actually swim in it.

Ponds in The Sims 4

There are two types of ponds in the game: normal ponds which can host fish and other living things and desert ponds. To create a pond in The Sims 4, you need to open the Build Menu, select the Ponds option and then apply it to the area where you want to add the respective body of water.

Ponds also exist as objects found in parks in the game. To place them on the lot, you need to use the bb.showhiddenobjects cheat.

If you see Sims swimming in what appears to be a pond, take a closer look. That body of water is probably a small pool that looks like a pond.

Why can’t my Sims swim?

If your Sim can’t swim, make sure they’re not hydrophobic. Hydrophobic Sims absolutely hate swimming and will get a negative moodlet when forced to swim. As a result, they’ll avoid swimming whenever presented with the opportunity.

They hate baths as well and won’t feel great after taking a bath either. Moreover, they can’t initiate shower woohoo. But that’s easy to understand why since they don’t really like water.

Where Can You Swim in The Sims 4?

Sims can swim in the ocean, in the sea, in lakes, pools and under bridges.  In The Sims 4: Island Living Sims can even wade in various bodies of water and get knee or waist deep into water.

Sims can drown if they swim for hours on end. Make sure they can get out of the water and rest before they become too exhausted.

And now you know.
