If Battlefield 2042 is not challenging enough for you, try playing Hazard Zone. This fast-paced mode is definitely not for the faint-hearted. While not as complex as other missions, it requires team work to succeed.

What is Hazard Zone in Battlefield 2042?
Battlefield 2042 features a battle royale mode called Hazard Zone. You’re part of a four-member squad that goes behind enemy lines. Your mission is to retrieve critical Data Drives while fighting enemy squads that have the same objective. Collect as many Data Drives as possible and get to the Extraction Point before a major storm sweeps the entire battlefield.
Team work is extremely important. You need to coordinate your actions with your squad to stay alive, find the Data Drives and extract them. Since there’s no in-game voice chat, create a chat group on Discord, or even Teams or Zoom to communicate in real-time with your teammates.
To succeed, you need to make the right choices before you enter Hazard Zone.
How do you play Hazard Zone?
Step 1: Select the right specialists
Some specialists are better than others when it comes to playing Hazard Zone. Select specialists that have strong cooperation skills. Webster Mackay is not really a good choice for Hazard Zone. He’s an assault expert that likes to handle things his own way. The same is valid for Emma Rosier. You can’t use the wingsuit to fly your teammates to safety. These two tend to abandon their teammates and venture into enemy territory by themselves.
⇒ Important Note: Make sure at least one specialist carries an Intel Scanner. This is a free gadget that you can use to find Data Drives and mark their location on the map.
The following specialist have what it takes for Hazard Zone:
- Wikus “Casper” Van Daele (Recon)
- Constantin “Angel” Anghel/ Maria Falck (Support)
- Pyotr “Boris” Guskovsky / Kimble “Irish” Graves (Engineers)
- Santiago “Dozer” Espinoza (Assault)
Casper
You can use Casper’s Recon Drone to spot enemies and take them out from afar. You can also stick C4 and C5 packages to your drone, fly it near enemies and detonate the charge. For example, you can land the drone on vehicles and instantly take out all the occupants. Casper can also spot and take out enemies near Extraction Points.
Angel or Maria
Constantin Anghel can heal injured teammates and restore their armor health. He can also call in loadouts. Maria Falck can heal and revive teammates but she can’t restore armor health. However, she can heal teammates to full health.
Boris
Boris can deploy a sentry gun that automatically swivels around and fires at enemies. The sentry gun can detect and target enemies that are hard to spot for players, such as enemies hiding in foliage. If you’re inside a building, you can deploy a sentry gun at the door, and cover the other entries yourself.
Dozer
Dozer can absorb incoming fire with the help of his shield. He can distract enemies while his teammates go deeper into enemy territory. The Blast Resistance ability reduces explosive damage allowing you to withstand enemy grenades.
Irish
Iris can deploy barricades to absorb incoming fire while you’re in the open. The Veteran ability allows him to use more armor. In a one-on-one fight, the odds are in your favor.
Step 2: Upgrade your weapons and equipment
Kill as many AI-controlled soldiers as soon as you land on the map to earn Dark Market Credits at the end of the match. Use the credits to buy better weapons, and gadgets to ensure your squad have the best weapon loadouts and tactical upgrades. AI-soldiers drop their weapons when killed, so make sure to upgrade when you have the chance.
You can find many AI-soldiers near Drop Pods. They’re easy to take out.
Step 3: Search for Uplinks
Uplinks can give your squad an edge in battle. Make sure to collect them whenever you find them. Stock them up, you can carry multiple uplinks.
Uplinks are laptops scattered throughout the map that give you extra support. There are three types of Uplinks: Vehicle, Ranger, and Reinforcement Uplinks.
For example, you can use Reinforcement Uplinks to bring back downed squadmates. Use your your call-in tablet to deploy Uplinks, and wait for your downed squadmates to parachute back to the battlefield.
The game will automatically alert you when you’re near Uplinks. You can find Vehicle Uplinks inside buildings. Use them to call-in vehicles.
Step 4: Collect the Data Drives
You can find the first Data Drive near the first Drop Pod. Take out the AI-controller soldiers, and interact with the pod to collect the drive.
Data drives are found in fallen satellites. They’re scattered all over the map. New satellites fall in the middle of the match in random places. They contain multiple data drives. Find the satellites and collect the drives.
Use the Intel Scanner to locate Data Drives. Keep in mind that this tool locates both drives in crashed satellites, as well as drives carried by enemies.
Step 5: Get ready for extraction
There are two Extraction Points in Hazard Zone. The catch is they don’t spawn right away. Collect the Data Drives and wait for the Extraction Points to show up on the map. It takes about 10 minutes for the first Extraction Point to spawn.
How to extract in Battlefield 2042 Hazard Zone
- Wait until the first Extraction Point spawns on the map.
- Then take all the Data Drives to the Extraction Point.
- Wait for 8 to 10 more minutes until the second Extraction Point shows up.
- Take the rest of the drives to the Extraction Point.
- Then extract as a squad from Hazard Zone.
If you don’t make it the second Extraction, you’ll all die and lose your Data Drives. As a result, you won’t get additional XP and Dark Market Credits for your Data Drives.
Keep in mind that the Osprey from the Extraction Points can’t extract multiple squads. There is room for only one squad. To make matters even more challenging, the extraction point is the same for all the squads. Extraction Points are hot spots for combat.
Things to keep in mind when playing Battlefield Hazard Zone
- The goal of Hazard Zone is to find and collect as many data drives as possible and then extract as a squad.
- There are eight four-player squads in each match, as well as many AI-controlled soldiers.
- Each specialist can only carry three Data Drives at a time.
- You drop all of your Data Drives when you die.
- Enemies also drop all of their Data Drives when you kill them. Don’t forget to scavenge the drives.
- Extracting as a squad is the only way to win the match.
- The first Extraction Point spawns 10 minutes into the game.
- The second and last Extraction Point spawns 8 or 10 minutes later.
Is Battlefield 2042 Hazard Zone a battle royale?
Battlefield 2042 Hazard Zone is a battle royale mode that pits eight four-player squads against one another. There are 32 players on the map, and extracting is the only way to win the match.
