Why are lot taxes so high in The Sims 4?

How-are-lot-taxes-calculated-in-Sims-4

Lot taxes often lead to astronomically high bills in The Sims 4. The amount due for each bill depends on the value of the lot your house is built on, and that includes all the items available on the lot.

If your Sims live in a mansion, your lot taxes will be a lot higher compared to the lot taxes for a cottage.

Many Sims 4 players have complained about high lot taxes. Oftentimes, that’s the element that causes bills to explode in the game.

Let’s discuss why lot taxes can sometimes go through the roof.

How are lot taxes calculated in The Sims 4?

Lot taxes are calculated based on the value of your house, as well as the value of all the items stored in your Sim’s Household Inventory. All the items that are part of the lot increase lot taxes.

Your Sims 4 lot taxes will increase if you:

  • Live in an expensive mansion
  • Own expensive items and decorations
  • Keep larger amounts of harvestable fruits and vegetables in the fridge
  • Make a vault and stash money in it

Things that increase lot taxes in The Sims 4

  • Using electric lights instead of candles causes the lot tax to increase in Eco-Lifestyle.
  • Televisions, computers, fridges, and other pieces of electric equipment increase your lot value, and thus your lot taxes. The more expensive your items, the higher your lot taxes.
  • If your Sim wins the lottery and you decide to stash the money in a vault, your lot taxes will go up. This is because the money becomes part of the lot.
  • Items stuck in your household inventory when changing a build add up to lot taxes.

A lot of stuff can get stuck in your Sim’s Household Inventory when you’re changing a build. Oftentimes, the game sends things like decorations and pieces of furniture to Household Inventory instead of deleting or selling them.

As a result, these items count on your taxes although they’re not technically on your lot.

All the items stored in your Sims 4 Household Inventory become part of the lot and increase lot taxes.
