Sims 4 Cottage Living: Canning has never been this fun

The Sims 4 Cottage Living introduced a new hobby and that is canning. As SimGuru Romeo confirmed, canning as a hobby is attached to the cooking skill.

Sims can grow or collect various fruit, vegetables, mushrooms, and so on that they can then preserve in small jars and store in the pantry.

How do you use canning in Sims 4?

To use the Canning option in The Sims 4, click on any oven or stovetop, and select Canning. The Recipe Menu will show up on the screen. Select the canned good that you want to make.

There is a plethora of canning recipes that you can use. There are 17 variations of jams, veggies, and custards available.

For example, you can prepare meat substitute recipes, tomato sauce, raspberry jam, apple jam, blueberry jam, blackberry jam, strawberry jam, custard, mayonnaise, and even chocolate syrup.

Just make sure to have all the ingredients at hand. And even if you don’t have a specific ingredient, you can quickly order it. But the best approach is to grow the ingredients in your very own garden.

By the way, if you’re interested in growing your own crops, Old New Henford is the place to go. Plant the seeds, water and fertilize your plants, and harvest the crops at the right time.

Limited options for the Simple Living lot trait

If your Sim is living on a lot that has Simple Living lot trait, they can only use the items available in their inventory to make canned goods. In other words, they may not have access to all the canning options available in the game.

What are canned goods used for in Sims 4?

You can do lots of things with canned goods in The Sims 4. You can eat them, store them in your inventory, use them to cook delicious meals, gift them to other Sims, or sell them at the Garden or Grocery stalls.

You can also decorate your jars and bottles with meshes for a more rustic design, so to speak. You can take your jars and go out for a nice picnic. Home-made jams will definitely impress your partner.

You can eat the jam straight out of the jar, or sell the goods at the market. Additionally, you can use these goods to prepare other meals. If your Sim is lactose intolerant, canned veggies will come in handy.

I like to keep a few jars of canned food in my Sim’s inventory just in case they get hungry and there’s no option to order food.

Well, if you don’t feel like preparing your own jars of jam, you can buy the goodies from the garden stall. By the way, the Crumplebottom family has a permanent market stand.

Feel free to pay Agnes a visit.

How to get new canning recipes

There are 17 canning recipes in The Sims 4. Only four recipes are available from the get-go.

Your Sim can unlock new canning recipes by leveling up their Cooking skill. The good news is that their Cooking skill increases while they’re canning.
