What do Insect Farms do in The Sims 4?

The-Sims-4-Insect-Farm

You can build Insect Farms in the Sims 4 to get Biofuel or add insect protein into your Sims’ diets.

To grow a healthy insect farm in The Sims 4 Eco Lifestyle, you need to constantly feed and nurture your bugs.

If you fail to do that, your bugs will get sick and die.

There are four types of bugs you can grow in your insect farms:

  • Beetles
  • Bombardier Beetles
  • Crickets
  • Grubs

Collect Biofuel from your insect farm

When the beetles are in good shape, you can also get Biofuel.

You can use Biofuel for your household appliances. Make Eco-Upgrade Parts on the Fabricator, and use them to upgrade your household appliances to run off Biofuel instead of electricity or water.

Switching to Bioful will lower your eco-footprint and reduce your bills.

Unfortunately, if your Sim lives in an apartment, they can’t build their own insect farm. As a quick reminder, you can’t edit apartment balconies in Eco Lifestyle.

Even if you could build an insect farm on the balcony, that would be very inconvenient. The bugs would invade your house making your Sim feel very uncomfortable.

Collect insects for food

You can collect insects for food every 24 hours. Vegetarian Sims can eat insect-based meals without any problem.

Your Sim can cook Bombardier Beetle Stir-fry and Bombardier Beetle nuggets once they’ve reached Level 5 of the Cooking skill. These meals are high in protein.

By the way, Bombardier Beetle-based foods will boost your Sim’s energy. That’s one quick way to make your Sims feel Energized without using cheats.

After reaching Level 10 of the Mixology skill, your Sims can make Beetle Juice with Beetle nuggets.

Yummy!

However, drinking too much Beetle Juice can be deadly. Death by Beetle Juice is real.

How to get Super Fertilizers from insect farms

Sims can collect Super Ferlizers from thriving insect farms.

When you collect Biofuel, cricket flour, or beetle nuggets, you’ll also get a can of Super Fertilizer.

This is a gift that your insects give you for helping them thrive.

Why is my insect farm health declining in The Sims 4?

If the health of your bugs declines after harvest, keep on feeding and nurturing them. You need to feed and nurture your bugs over and over again until the game tells you they’re thriving.

The Harvest option should show up on the screen shortly after your bugs have recovered.

You can feed your insects compost from the toilet to help them recover faster.

If the option to Compost in Insect Farm is not available, make sure your insect farm is active. If the insects are full, you won’t be able to feed them compost.

Wait until they’re hungry, and try to use the option again.

Make sure constantly feed your bugs. If their health gets too low, you won’t be able to collect them.

When the Harvest option appears on the screen, make sure to use it fast. Insects have a pretty short lifespan in The Sims 4.

Your insect farm will give you the following produce: cricket flour, beetle nuggets, and grub meal.

Happy Simming!
