If FIFA animation lacks smoothness, don’t panic. You’re not the only one experiencing these problems. Many FIFA players complained about stuttering and micro-freezes.

Follow the troubleshooting steps below to fix the problem.

How do I fix FIFA’s stuttering issues?

First, install the latest FIFA updates. EA often rolls out important patches and updates to improve the game’s stability and fix existing bugs. Then check if updating the game solves your stuttering issues.

If the issue persists, go to the next solution.

Change DirectX settings

  1. Navigate to Documents
  2. Open your FIFA folder
  3. Locate the FIFA Setup text file and open it with Notepad
  4. Then change the DirectX setting from 1 to 0 (zero)
  5. Save the settings, and restart FIFA

Disable Origin In-Game

  1. Open Origin, then click on Origin
  2. Go to Application Settings
  3. Select Origin In-Game and disable the option
  4. Restart Origin and check the results

Change your default Documents path

  1. Right-click on your Documents folder and select Properties
  2. Select the Location tab
  3. Then select Move and change your default Documents path from C to a different drive
  4. Click OK to save the changes
  5. Launch FIFA again and check if the issue persists

Tweak your graphics settings

Go to your GPU’s Control Panel, and tweak the following settings:

  • Turn V-Sync on
  • Lock the game to 60 FPS
  • Go to Power management and enable max performance
  • Select Refresh rate and set it to Highest available
  • Set Threaded optimization to Auto

Also, make sure to install the latest GPU driver updates and restart your computer.

Lower your monitor’s refresh rate

If your monitor refreshes at 144Hz but the GPU can’t deliver 144fps at max settings, you’ll experience micro-freezes when playing FIFA.

To fix the issue, lower the refresh rate to 60Hz in Windows Settings.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Select System
  3. Click on Display
  4. Select Advanced display settings
  5. Go to Refresh rate and lower your settings
  6. Save the settings, restart your computer and check the results.
