Elden Ring: What happens if you open Patches’ chest?

Elden-Ring-what-happens-after-opening-Patches-chest

Patches is not a very likeable Elden Ring NPC. Many players can’t wait to get rid of him. Well, killing Patches early in the game is not a good idea. You have far more advantages if you let him live and trade with him.

However, you should not trust Patches completely. Opening his second chest may reveal some unpleasant surprises. After all, he did attack you after opening the first chest, didn’t he?

What happens if I open Patches’ chest in Elden Ring?

If you open Patches’ second chest, you’ll get teleported to Limgrave East. His second chest is actually a Transporter Trap that sends you to the other side of Limgrave. You need to rest at the Mistwood Outskirts Site of Grace to be able to fast travel again.

The problem is that the chest will teleport you right in front of a giant bear. Fighting the bear is not a wise decision, you’re probably underequipped to deal with such an opponent.

But there’s a handy map of East Limgrave near the bear.  You may want to venture closer and pick up the map fragment to unlock the area of East Limgrave.

When you return to Patches after being forcefully teleported to Limgrave East, he’ll start trading with you. He also suggests that you should take the event as a learning experience. You can use his shop to buy handy items that help you upgrade your weapons and level up your character.

If you’re still determined to get your revenge against Patches, you can kill him and give his Ball Bearing to the Twin Maiden Husks to unlock his shop items. Some players prefer to kill all the merchant NPCs and have their shop items in one place.

Did you open Patches’ second chest after all? Let me know in the comments below.
