Is Malenia evil?
Malenia is not necessarily evil by nature. Just like many Elden Ring characters, she is pulled around by fate, curses, and merciless gods.
She is cursed at birth to harbor Scarlet Rot. She decides to fight Radahn to take his rune, so that her brother, Miquella can become the next Elden Lord.
She hopes that her brother will be able to free her from the Scarlet Rot curse once he becomes Elden Lord.
Unfortunately, Malenia loses the fight and decides to pull the last trick she has up her sleeve. She releases Scarlet Rot on half the continent, killing Radahn’s army and everything in that area.
That’s why the Caelid region is covered in Scarlet Rot.
As you can see, she didn’t wipe out half the continent driven by pure evil thoughts. She released Scarlet Rot as a last resort.
