How do I stop Sims from dying from laughter?

Your Sims can die from too much laughter. You can quickly bring up the Hysterical moodlet required to trigger Death by Laughter.

But what if you want to stop Sims from experiencing such an unusual death?

Let’s see what you can do about that.

How to prevent Death by Laughter in The Sims 4

To prevent Death from Laughter in The Sims 4, avoid the Childish, Goofball, and Cheerful traits and immediately send your Sim to a mirror to calm down if they become way too Playful.

Never let them go to Hysterical. When the Very Playful moodlet shows up on the screen, have them take a break from whatever they’re doing.

Cancel whatever they’re doing.

If they remain Playful for too long, the Hysterical buff will show up on the screen.

Make a straight face in the mirror to calm your Sim down before death kicks in.

You can also make your Sims sleep or take a quick nap to reduce the intensity of their emotions.

Don’t do anything that increases playfulness such as making a phone call, taking a bubble bath, or watching comedy on TV.

If you have Spa Day installed, have your Sims meditate.

Alternatively, if you’re looking for a quick solution, you can simply use MCCC to disable emotional deaths.

Reduce the total Happiness score

If your Sim has too many Happy moodlets, they’ll add up creating one Playful moodlet that causes your Sim to become hysterical.

For example, if your lot has a bunch of high environmental score objects and decor, your Sim will get a Happy +2 or +3 buff. This adds up to all the positive emotions they’re feeling.

When the total happiness score is too high, Sims can become hysterical after making the slightest joke or witnessing a funny scene.

To prevent that from happening, you can change the interior design of your household and redo the floors and walls so that your Sims only get a Happy +1 environmental score.

Long story short, you need to downgrade your decor items.

As a downside, your Sims may start to dislike the new decor and get the Poorly Decorated buff but at least they’ll stay alive.

Equally important, remove items with enabled emotional auras, particularly items that make Sims playful.

These may include but are not limited to the Hysterical Tiger Hat, Star Spangled Glasses, and so on.

Happy Simming!
