How does the Loyal trait work in The Sims 4?

The-Sims-4-Loyal-Trait

Sims with the Loyal trait fully commit to their relationships. They are loyal to their friends and partners and avoid lying and cheating. Mutual trust plays a crucial role in their relationships.

The Loyal trait doesn’t prevent cheating

The Loyal trait does make it harder for Sims to cheat on their partner but it doesn’t completely disable this option.

Loyal Sims can still cheat on their partner. They’ll get the What Have I Done moodlet from cheating on their partner.

The Loyal trait doesn’t prevent other Sims from autonomously proposing marriage to your Sim either.

Such events can cause a lot of drama, especially if your Sim is already engaged or married.

Of course, for such events to happen, your Loyal Sim needs to flirt with that Sim first.

I had my Sim, Andy, flirt with Rahmi Watson and propose to her twice. She refused every time. After a while, she suddenly showed up and proposed to Andy.

New social interactions

The Loyal trait brings six new social interactions to The Sims 4 game:

  • Express Devotion
  • Promise to Help
  • Confess Cheating
  • Acknowledge Cheating
  • Attempt to Rebuild Trust
  • Confront About Bullying

Sims will gently caress their partner’s face when expressing devotion.

After cheating on their partner, Loyal Sims can choose to confess to cheating. Their partner will typically get sad or very angry.

Unfaithful Sims can apologize to their partner for cheating on them in an attempt to rebuild trust.

The Loyal trait can trigger unique moodlets

The Loyal trait adds seven new moodlets to the Sims 4 game:

  • What Have I Done?
  • Trust Rebuilt
  • Embarrassed From Failing to Rebuild Trust
  • Painful Reminder
  • Broken Trust
  • Your Secret Is Safe With Me
  • Not on My Watch

What Have I Done?

Sims with the Loyal trait will get the What Have I Done moodlet after cheating on their partner. They suddenly realize trust is easy to break but hard to fix.

To alleviate guilt, have your Sim confess to cheating.

Broken Trust

After confessing to cheating, Loyal Sims will get the Broken Trust moodlet. They will experience bitter regret when seeing the pain in their loved one’s eyes after confessing to cheating.

The only way to regain the trust they lost is to apologize and attempt to rebuild trust.

Trust Rebuilt

Sims-4-Trust-Rebuilt

After cheating on their partner, Loyal Sims can use the “Rebuild Trust” interaction to say “Sorry”. If their partner forgives them, they’ll get the Trust Rebuilt moodlet.

Embarrassed From Failing to Rebuild Trust

If your partner doesn’t forgive them for cheating on them, you’ll get the “Embarrassed From Failing to Rebuild Trust” moodlet.

Some mistakes are really hard to forgive.

Painful Reminder

Loyal Sims that try to romance a Sim they’ve recently cheated on will get the Painful Reminder moodlet. All that guilt comes flooding back making them feel sad.

Bug Report: Loyal Sims autonomously flirt with other Sims

The Loyal trait can sometimes cause Sims to autonomously flirt with other Sims. This is a paradox as this trait is supposed to make Sims avoid lying and cheating.

There are many Simmers that have complained about this issue. At the time of writing, EA has yet to acknowledge this bug.

Removing the Loyal trait should solve the problem.

I just removed the Loyal trait from all 4 sims. They are no longer flirting with random people and random people are no longer flirting with them. They were only flirting with their partners. The Loyal trait is breaking something.
