New World may sometimes throw an error message that says lag was detected and you’re not authorized to continue playing. Let’s see how you can solve this problem and resume playing your favorite game.
How to fix New World “Not authorized to continue playing” error
Fix 1: Check your connection
Unplug your router
Unplugging your router should solve most connection-related issues. Leave your router unplugged for two minutes to get rid of flea power. Then, plug it back in and check if you can play New World.
Switch to a cable connection
Wired connections are more stable and faster than wireless connections. Use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer to your modem/router.
Disable your firewall
Your firewall might be blocking your connection to New World’s servers. You can either whitelist New World in your firewall settings or completely disable your firewall.
Open New World’s port on your router
Make sure to open the following ports on your router:
- TCP: 80, 443
- UDP: 33435
For more information, go to your router manufacturer’s website.

Fix 2: Install the latest Windows updates
Check for pending Windows updates and install them on your computer. If you’re running an outdated OS version, don’t be surprised if you’re getting connection errors while playing New World or other games.
You can use the Windows Update Assistant to quickly update your device to the latest version.
Fix 3: Verify the integrity of game files
- Open your Steam library.
- Right-click on New World.
- Select Properties.
- Go to Local Files tab.
- Click on the Verify integrity of game files… button.
Fix 4: Close background processes
Close all the other apps and processes running in the background. They may be using up your bandwidth. Launch the Task Manager and manually end all the unnecessary background processes.
