If you’re new to Elden Ring and Dark Souls games for that matter, you may find the lack of clear directions quite frustrating. Of course, there are yellow arrows on the map pointing you to main objectives of each region. But oftentimes, players are quite unsure of the path to follow after defeating a major boss.
If you just defeated Rennala, one of the major bosses of the games, and you don’t know where to go next, you’ve come to the right place.
Where do I go after Rennala in Elden Ring?
The first thing you want to do after defeating Rennala is go the Roundtable Hold and talk to Gideon Ofnir. He’ll reveal to you that you next objective is Leyndell, the Royal Capital. But before you go there, explore Liurnia of the Lakes extensively in order to level up your character. Leyndell is an enormous area, populated with powerful enemies and bosses. If your character is weak, you’ll stand absolutely no chance against them.
After defeating all the enemies in Leyndell, Melina will show up again and will give you a few pieces of advice on how to proceed further.
Areas to explore after defeating Rennala
After defeating Rennala, you can continue to explore Liurnia of the Lakes if you already claimed the two Dectus Medallion halves. This will open the way to Altus Plateau and the path to Volcano Manor. While in Liurnia, go to the Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnels and pick up weapon upgrade materials. After exploring Liurnia of the Lakes thoroughly and finishing the Volcano Manor quest, you can go to Leyndell, Royal Capital.
Alternatively, you can head east to the region of Caelid. However, the enemies from Caelid are extremely powerful, and you should go there only after leveling up your character. Otherwise, you’ll risk getting killed time and time again. Avoid Caelid until later.

Then, explore Liurnia of the Lakes extensively, pick up all the weapon upgrade materials you can find, and follow the side questlines of the NPCs in the region.
