The Sims 4 Moving Out: What Happens to Your Belongings?

When your Sim moves to a different household or a new lot, you have two options for handling your belongings. You can either take your furniture with you or sell it for extra Simoleons.

When you reach the Move screen, you’ll see two options in the drop-down menu: Keep Furniture and Sell Furniture.

If you choose Keep Furniture, all the items from your old home will be moved to your household inventory. You can then place them in your new house after the move.

If you choose Sell Furniture, any furniture that hasn’t already been placed in your household inventory will be sold. Your household will receive Simoleons for the items you leave behind.

If you have important items, such as masterpiece paintings or upgraded objects, move them to your Sim’s personal inventory before moving out.

This allows you to choose Sell Furniture and get rid of unwanted items without losing anything valuable.

TIP: Save your game before moving to a new house or lot. If something goes wrong, you can reload your previous save instead of losing your items.

How to Move a House to a Different Lot in The Sims 4

Moving an entire house to another lot works differently from moving your Sim to a new home.

First, enter Build Mode and save a copy of the house to your Library. Before moving, place any upgraded or crafted items you want to keep into your Sim’s inventory or household inventory.

Next, go to Manage Worlds, select the new lot, and enter Build Mode. Find the house in your Library and place it on the new lot.

Once the house has been placed, use the Move Out Household option to move your Sims into their new home.

After moving in, you can rearrange the furniture and place your saved items wherever you want.

Moving an entire house is a little more complicated than simply moving your Sims to another household, so make sure you save any important items beforehand.

Important Note: If you move out without placing crafted or upgraded items into your Sim’s inventory or household inventory, those items may be lost during the move.

What Happens to Retail Assets When Your Sim Moves?

Retail assets stay with the household rather than the lot when your Sim moves.

Your retail business and its assets remain tied to the building, so moving your household to another lot will not affect your retail business.

What Happens to Your Stuff When You Move Out in The Sims 4?

The items you keep depend on the option you select during the move.

If you choose Keep Furniture, your household items will remain available through your household inventory after the move.

If you choose Sell Furniture, only the items placed in your Sim’s inventory or household inventory will be kept.

For example, if your Sim has a large house with a garden and you save the lot to your Library, the furniture, plants, and garden produce can be transferred if you choose to keep your furniture. However, planter boxes are an exception and cannot be moved this way.

Put Important and Upgraded Items in Your Inventory Before Moving

Before moving out, it’s always a good idea to store valuable items in your household inventory.

Go into Build & Buy Mode and place upgraded objects, career rewards, garden plants, and other important items into your household inventory.

After the move, you can take them out and place them in your new home.

This is especially useful for items that took a long time to create or upgrade, as you won’t have to replace them after moving.

Can You Take Plants With You When You Move Out in The Sims 4?

Yes, you can take plants with you when moving to a new house or lot. To do this, place the plants in your household inventory before moving.

Plants stored in your household inventory won’t wither, and you can place them on your new lot once you move in. They may need some time to grow again, but they will keep their quality.

Taking plants with you is a great way to start a garden at your new residence without having to grow everything from the beginning.

However, planter boxes cannot be placed in your inventory and moved to another lot.

Once your plants are safely stored, you can sell the rest of your furniture without worrying about losing them.

Harvest Your Plants Before Moving

Before placing plants into your household inventory, make sure to harvest any produce first. If you don’t, you may end up with loose fruits and vegetables after moving.

If your Sim has a Money Tree, consider placing it in your inventory before harvesting. This allows you to collect Money Tree seeds and plant them at your new residence.

Conclusion

When you move out in The Sims 4, you can either sell everything or transfer your items to your new residence. Save a copy of your household to your library before moving out.

Always put important items, plants, and upgraded stuff in your household inventory before moving out. You can then take them out of the inventory and place them on the lot.
