Sims with a green thumb can develop their gardening skills by growing a plethora of plants. They can buy and plant the seeds, water the plants and watch them grow.
But sometimes, unexpected events can occur. For example, many gamers complained their plants suddenly started emitting green smoke and became stinky.
Why do my plants start emitting green stinky smoke in Sims 4?
If you have the Eco Living pack, your plants usually start emitting a green cloud like they are rotten when your neighborhood goes from being Green to either Neutral or Industrial.
The stink usually develops when your plants die. But if they look super healthy, and randomly become stinky although your Sims are caring for them, this may be a bug.
In this case, repairing the game may help. Exit the game, launch Origin, go to your library, right-click on Sims 4 and select Repair game.
Many Eco Living gamers confirmed that repairing the game after going from Green to Neutral or Industrial also helped.
Your plants’ upgrade needs are not met
Other gamers suggested that plants might become stinky when they’re normal but their upgrade needs are not met.
In other words, this has something to do with the plant evolution state because you’re not helping them evolve.
Try fertilizing your plants and check if the stink and the green smoke go away.
You can also try putting the plants in your household inventory in build mode and then putting them back in the ground.
A number of users confirmed this workaround did the trick for them helping them keep their plants alive.
Of course, this can take a while if you have a lot of plants.
Seeing your plants go to stink clouds and then reverting to piles of dust and dirt instead of blooming can be really frustrating.
