Sims 4 Cottage Living: How to build ponds

sims-4-cottage-living-ponds

The Sims 4 Cottage Living brings a very handy new tool that allows you to build and customize amazing ponds. The Water Tool is available in build mode and you can now use it to manipulate the terrain. Building a pond has never been easier. Use the Water Tool to carve a hole into the ground, and then fill it with water.

Build customizable ponds

The best part is that you can customize your ponds to your liking. For example, you can use different depths of ponds, and add various items at different heights.

If there is another hole next to your pond, you can add so much water in your pond that it combines with the hole next to it.

If can also use a plethora of options to decorate and customize your ponds. There are six new water styles available:

  • Ordinary Chlorinated Pool Water
  • Dreaming of Water
  • Pond Scum
  • Mossy Water
  • Leafy Water
  • Pond Water

You can also decorate the surface of your ponds. You can add dragonflies, mosquitoes, tadpoles, fish, ducks, swans, logs, and even an alligator.

Once you go back to to live mode, the tiles on the surface of the pond will go away, and turn into creatures. They are only visible in build mode. If you like turtles, you can have them visit the pond, or call flies to buzz around the weeds. Click on the Lilly pads, and you can have frogs come and hop on the Lilly pads.

Ponds have gameplay associated with them

Your Sims can do a lot of things around ponds. They can splash in the water, catch fish, look for frogs, and more. For example, if you want to catch fish, place a fishing sign on the pond, click on it, and select which fish you want to stock the pond with.

But there’s a catch. First, you need to add those fish in your household collections. Explore different fishing spots, catch new fish types, and then stock your pond with them.

If you also have The Sims 4 Seasons expansion, your ponds will freeze over during winter. When that happens, some of the animals might go away, and you won’t be able to fish in a frozen pond.

Many gamers hoped Sims would be able to swim in ponds in Cottage Living but that’s not the case. Your Sims can have a lot of fun around their ponds, but they can’t swim in them.

The recipe to build ponds in Sims 4 Cottage Living is pretty simple. Dig holes, fill them with water, add decorations, and customize your ponds to your heart’s desire.

Happy gaming.
