Why exactly are there no cars in The Sims 4?

This post  discusses why there are no cars or other vehicles in The Sim4, as well the possibility of EA adding cars to the game in the future.

Many gamers agree that EA should at least add premade cars and other vehicles that players can use as décor. Gamers who want The Sims 4 to remain as close to real-life as possible, said they’d prefer to click on a car for travelling instead of magically teleporting everywhere.

Here’s why The Sims 4 doesn’t have cars

Adding cars to The Sims 4 would make the game far too complex and difficult to run on low-end computers. The Sims 4 developers want the game to remain accessible for as many players as possible and run even on entry level devices that aren’t usually for gaming.

The way The Sims 4 is designed, Sims can do everything through their cellphones, and that makes cars pretty much useless. The load screens have eliminated the need for cars. Why use cars when you can simply teleport around?

The neighborhoods are too small, and some of them don’t actually have roads at all. Simply put, there is not enough travel time for the devs to add cars to the game.

Sims driving cars from point A to point B would be pointless. If you think about it, the whole process would go like this:

  • Your Sim gets in the car.
  • They then drive for about 3 to 5 seconds.
  • The new load screen pops up.
  • The car is now parked and your Sims gets out of it. There’s no real driving around.

The mapping makes adding car pretty difficult. It’s not impossible, but it’s a lot of hard work. Keep in mind that not every house is connected to the road. Sims would need to drive their cars to the edge of the neighborhood, which makes things even more complicated.

Meanwhile, your Sims can get on a bike if they want to move within the lot. Or they can fly on a broomstick. Pretty convenient, isn’t it?

Is Sims 4 ever going to get cars?

Many gamers who played The Sims 3 enjoyed using cars. They believe the devs should at least give users the option to use cars instead of assuming that everybody prefers instant teleportation.

While watching your Sims drive for five seconds and then disappear off the lot is not much fun, cars that come with gameplay is a whole different story. Sims can fix broken cars, customize the vehicles for racing, and so on.

But the chances of drivable cars landing in The Sims 4 in the near future are pretty slim. Adding new expansion packs to the game seems to be the main priority.

But maybe The Sims 5 will feature drivable cars. What do you think about this idea? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

  1. Well, this is a bunch of holy hogwash and shows how little you actually know about the franchise. Tehre were cars in Sims 2 and 3 and there were all kinds of activities for them besides just driving somewhere. Especially in Sims 2. You could relax in your car with a date, make out, later on refurbish said car, and park it outside your destination. And you’re telling me it would be too complicated? I stumbled on your article and there’s nothing I hate then these flimsy wad excuses for EA’s decimation of the Sims franchise. Learn your Sims history bub.

    1. Thank you for your feedback.

As the title suggests, the focus of the article is “cars in Sims 4”.
I never intended to write a “brief history of cars in the Sims franchise”.
And I never said there were no cars in previous Sims releases, on the contrary: “Many gamers who played The Sims 3 enjoyed using cars.”

Anyway, thank you once again for your time and feedback.
