The Sims 4 FAQ: Can I Play Sims on Macbook Air?

play the sims 4 macbook air

Many Macbook Air owners are wondering if they can run The Sims 4 on their devices. Keep on reading this guide to learn the answer.

Can the MacBook Air run The Sims 4?

Macbook Air computers are not powerful devices and they are not designed for gaming. The Sims 4 is a complex game that requires a lot of processing power and memory and your Macbook Air will struggle to run it.

However, this doesn’t mean that Macbook Airs cannot run The Sims 4. If you set your graphics settings on low and you close all the other programs and tasks running on your device, you should be able to launch the game although it won’t run well.

Keep in mind that the more packs you add to your game, the slower your Macbook Air will become. Using a lot of custom content will only slow down your game.

The Sims 4 won’t run on Non-Metal Mac OS machines

The Sims 4 is no longer supported on Non-Metal Mac OS devices. This is because Apple ended support for the OpenGL graphics processing technology and moved to a new technology known as Metal.

Following this change, EA upgraded The Sims 4 to work with Metal only. If you can’t upgrade to a new MacOS device and OS version supporting Metal, you can play The Sims 4: Legacy Edition.

Long story short, The Sims 4 is no longer supported on Macbook devices older than 5 years.

The Sims 4 game bugs on Macbook Air

Additionally, running The Sims 4 on an older Macbook Air model will cause all sorts of glitches.

When you rotate the camera, it will move the other way, if you move the mouse to the right, it will actually move to the left.

Many Macbook Air owners complained their devices got extremely hot while they played The Sims 4. Actually, Macbook Air overheating issues while gaming seems to be the norm. Put your computer on a cooling pad to make sure it does not get too hot while gaming.

Also, the loading time is not instantaneous, and lag issues occur pretty frequently.

While you can install and run The Sims 4 on a Macbook Air device that supports Metal graphics technology, your gaming experience will let a lot to be desired due to the low graphics and processing power that Macbook Air devices generally have.

For a better gaming experience, you should play the Sims on a Macbook Pro version or, better yet, a Windows computer.
