If you want to make yourself useful in Elden Ring, you can do Thops’ questline and help him go back to Magic school. Additionally, if you give him 10 Runes, he’ll teach you three handy spells. Killing Thops early in the game is not a good idea as this will lock you out of his quest, and you won’t be able to get the Erudition emote.
But even if you don’t kill Thops yourself, someone or something else will. Let’s explore what exactly happens to this unlucky NPC.
What happens to Thops in Elden Ring?
After giving Thops the key to the Academy of Raya Lucarnia, you’ll find his corpse at the Schoolhouse Classroom Site of Grace. Most likely, he got killed by old enemies or someone who didn’t want him to study at the academy. Or maybe something went wrong while he was studying a new spell.
If you look carefully at his hands, you’ll notice he’s holding something. The item he’s holding is probably related to a new spell he was studying shortly before he died. After all, you do get a new spell after he dies.
As you can see, Thops dies before fulfilling his dream of studying Magic at the academy. There’s no need to feel guilty about his death. You didn’t send him to this death by giving him the key to the Academy. He chose to go back to the academy.
Can you revive Thops in Elden Ring?
Unfortunately, you cannot revive Thops, he’s forever gone. You can’t use Celestial Dew to resurrect him. Accept the fact that he’s dead and focus on the next step.
