Elden Ring: How to use secret gestures and where to find them

elden-ring-secret-gestures

You can use a variety of gestures in Elden Ring such as waving, greeting, clapping, and so on. You can also bind specific gestures to specific keyboard shortcuts.

There are also many secret gestures that can trigger special events and guests. They are not just for show. Let’s find out more about these special gestures.

What are Secret Gestures in Elden Ring?

Secret gestures are special gestures that Elden Ring players can use to trigger certain events that will unlock new quests, items, allies, and even bosses. You can also use them to communicate with other players and express yourself in unique ways.

To unlock secret gestures in Elden Ring, look for hidden clues around you. For example, check if you see any statue posing as a gesture. Then, copy the gesture to trigger the special event.

Finding Secret Gestures requires exploration and curiosity. You’ll often come across them in hidden or hard-to-reach locations, behind illusory walls, or as rewards for completing certain quests or defeating specific enemies.

Certain NPCs will hint at what gestures you should make when reaching a certain place.

Sometimes, it may take a couple of minutes until the game triggers the event that you unlocked via the special gesture you just made. Check if any secret door opens, if a new enemy appears, or if something changes in the environment.

How to use secret gestures in Elden Ring

To perform gestures in Elden Ring, open the menu, go to the slots on the bottom right, and pick a secret gesture using the action button. You can only have up to six at a time, but you can swap them with any you’ve collected using the on-screen prompts at the bottom.

If you’re playing on PlayStation, you can even link gestures to controller movements. To use them in the game, just hold the Triangle and make the movement that matches the gesture you want to use.

Use the Finger Snap gesture to meet Blaidd

After defeating Godrick the Grafted, the boss of Stormveil Castle, go back to the Church of Elleh. Then, speak to the merchant Kalé. He’ll tell you to go the Mistwood Forest and use the Finger Snap when you hear wolves howling.

Use the Finger Snap gesture to have the NPC Blaidd appear at the Mistwood Forest. This will also unlock Blaidd’s side quests.

Patches’ Secret Gesture

You can find Patche in the Murkwater Cave near the Murkwater River. When you face him as a boss and his health drops to around 75%, he’ll surrender. But if you resist attacking him at this point, you’ll receive the Grovel for Mercy gesture.

But here’s where it gets interesting. If you attack Patches again after befriending him, he’ll suggest you surrender when your health gets low.

You can use the Grovel for Mercy gesture, and he’ll cease his attacks, granting you the Extreme Repentance gesture.

The Erudition Secret Gesture

You can unlock secret areas in Elden Ring using the Erudition secret gesture at the Converted Tower and the Converted Fringe Tower in Liurnia of the Lakes.

To acquire the Erudition gesture, head to the Church of Irith and provide Thops with the second Glintstone Key from the Raya Lucaria Academy.

The Converted Tower is in the southwestern part of the map. To access it, perform the Erudition gesture in front of the statue at the tower’s center. This conjures a magical ladder to one of Elden Ring’s Memory Stones.

The Erudition gesture has one more secret up its sleeve at the Fringe Converted Tower. This tower sports a magically locked door, and to open it, you’ll need to perform the Erudition gesture while wearing one of the numerous Glintstone Crowns.

Once done, ascending the Converted Fringe Tower will reward you with the Cannon of Haima and the Gavel of Haima sorceries.
