Elden Ring: Should I kill the Dung Eater?

You should not let anger control you when playing Elden Ring. While some NPC such as Patches can get on your nerves, don’t give in to the first impulse of killing them. Killing them early will mess up their questlines.

What about the Dung Eater? He’s not the nicest or most handsome character in the game. But does he deserve to die soon after you encounter him? Let’s find out!

Should I kill the Dung Eater in Elden Ring?

You can kill the Dung Eater if you want to but only after completing the Blackguard Big Boggart’s questline. If you kill him early, he won’t show up to kill Big. You may want to kill the Dung Eater for his sword. He drops the Sword of Milos which gives you back 5 FP every time you kill an enemy.

Alternatively, you can also let him live to get his summoning ashes later on in the game.

What happens if I don’t kill the Dung Eater?

If you don’t kill the Dung Eater’s, you can give him Seluvis’ Potion, instead of giving it to Nepheli. If you give him the potion, he’s be teleported into Seluvis’ puppet dungeon. If you continue Seluvis’ quest, you can get Dung Eater’s summoning ashes later on.

This is a handy aggressive tank summon. Some players said that Dung Eater’s summoning ashes are better than Loux’s version, at least for a Mage build.

What happens if I kill the Dung Eater in Elden Ring?

The Dung Eater will drop his full armor set and the Sword of Milos when killed. If you kill him before completing the Blackguard Big Boggart’s questline, he won’t show up to kill Big. That’s why you should first complete the questline and then fight him.

Once again, before killing the Dung Eater, make sure to complete the Blackguard Big Boggart’s questline. Dung Eater is a part of it, and killing him early will mess up the quest.

Sword of Milos requirements

If you’re using a Magic built, your character might have trouble using the Sword of Milos. This Greatsword requires Strength 15, and Dexterity 19. If you haven’t focuses on leveling up these attributes, your character won’t be able to take full advantage of the Sword of Milos.

When is the right time to kill the Dung Eater?

To be able to kill the Dung Eater, you first need to embark on his questline. You need a Seedbed Curse to start the quest. The Dung Eater will give you the Sewer-Gaol key after noticing you have this key item on you. After that, you’ll find him locked in a prison cell in the sewers. Free him, and he’ll challenge you to fight him.

⇒ Fun Fact: The Dung Eater is the guy that appears behind the Twins in the Roundtable Hold. He’s sitting on a pile of corpses around him.
