There are very few friendly NPCs in Elden Ring. Many of them have something to hide, and the bosses are out to get you. Meeting a friendly NPC such as Alexander the Iron Fist, aka the PotBoy, can be confusing. At first, you might be tempted to finish him off. But is that really a good idea? Let find out!
Should I kill Alexander in Elden Ring?
You should not kill Alexander the Iron Fist. He’s a friendly NPC, doesn’t have anything to hide, and has no intention of killing you. Set him free and he’ll reward you with the Triumphant Delight Gesture and a piece of Exalted Flesh.
What happens if I kill Alexander the Iron Fist?
If you kill Alexander, he’ll drop 1,500 Runes and the Warrior Pot Shard which is a talisman that boosts your skill damage. At the same time, his questline will become unavailable and you won’t be able to summon him for the boss fight at the Radahn Festival.
Find Alexander and release him
You’ll come across Alexander very early in the game. You can find him in the eastern part of Limgrave. Alexander is stuck in the ground near the Saintsbridge Site of Grace. If you listen carefully, you can hear his voice asking for help.
To release him from his predicament, simply hit him gently with your weapon a few times. As a reward, he’ll teach you the Triumphant Delight emote and give you the Exalted Flesh which you can eat to temporarily increase your physical attack.
He’ll also tell you where you can find him later in the game. He has a special questline ready for you later on.
Say “Hello” to Alexander at the Radahn Festival
The next time you’ll meet Alexander will be at the Radahn Festival. You can summon him there for the boss fight. You’ll then meet him at Liurnia of the Lakes. This time, he is stuck in the ground again. To release him, you need to craft a pot of oil using the recipe from the Warrior’s Cookbook 17.
Alexander’s final location will be at the Crumbling Faram Azula. He’ll ask you to fight him, and he’ll drop the Shard of Alexander and Alexander’s Innards. That’s the end of Alexander. At the end of the questline, you have no choice but to kill him.
And now you know.
What decision did you take? Did you kill Alexander when you first met him? Or did you set him free? Let me know in the comments below.
