If the laundry basket is not full, most maids won’t do the laundry, they’ll wait until the bin gets full. For example, if there’s clothes on the floor, maids will take it to the bin, but won’t start a load of laundry. It also depends on the maid you get. Butlers seem to do the laundry more frequently than maids. They don’t usually wait until the laundry basket gets full to start a load of laundry.
Once quick way to encourage your maid to start a load of laundry is to put your clothes in the basket while they’re around, and then walk away. Sometimes, you may have to reprimand your maids. Or you can keep firing them until you get one that does the job properly and takes care of everything, laundry included.
If dirty clothes start piling up, this indicates there’s a problem somewhere. Maybe the washer or dryer have broken down. Check your Sim’s inventory, dirty clothes may sometimes get stuck in the inventory. Additionally, check if someone forgot to remove the laundry from the washer or dryer.
Keep in mind that maids don’t put the clothes away. They’ll take it from the dryer or clothesline and simply leave it on a table or counter. Your Sim has to put it away from there.
