Truth be told, doing the dishes is not the funniest of activities. And Sims seem to agree.
Many players complained their Sims won’t do the dishes no matter what. Oftentimes, they pick up the dishes, only to place them back down a few seconds later.
Let’s discuss why your Sims are refusing to do the dishes and what you can do about it.
Why won’t my Sims clean up the dishes?
Check for dishes stuck in weird places
Sims will sometimes do weird things. For example, they may randomly put dirty plates on the floor, bookshelves, coffee tables, and even under the couch.
In other words, they’ll put dirty dishes anywhere but the kitchen sink or dishwasher.
Unfortunately, if a dirty plate or glass gets stuck somewhere and your Sims can’t reach it, they’ll keep putting the rest down.
That’s their way of saying something’s preventing them from doing the dishes.
Your task is to look all over the place and check for sneaky dishes stuck in weird places, such as shelves or half-walls.
By the way, dirty plates stuck on shelves with open spaces or bathroom cabinets often trigger the filthy surroundings moodlet.
One way to get rid of it is to find those dirty plates and clean them up.
Add the Neat trait
If you don’t want to see dirty dishes lying around, pick traits such as Neat. Sims with the Neat trait will automatically do the dishes because they become tense when there are dirty plates and glasses around.
That’s one quick way to solve the problem.
Ensure the sink and dishwasher are in a convenient spot
If the kitchen sink or dishwasher is not in a convenient enough spot, your Sims won’t do the dishes. Make sure nothing’s blocking your Sim’s access to the kitchen sink or dishwasher.
Remove any objects that might get in the way, and check if your Sims start doing the dishes on their own.
Sims will sometimes do the dishes in the bathroom sink if they can’t get to the kitchen sink.
Make sure there’s nothing better to do
A lot of Sims will do the dishes on their own when they have nothing better to do. As a matter of fact, if your Sims are bored and they’ve got nothing interesting to do, they’ll start doing the dishes on their own.
