The Sims 4: Why are my Sims getting fat?

why sims got fat

Many players noticed their Sims got fat without a clear reason. In many cases, not all the Sims living in the same household gained weight despite living under the same roof, eating the same food, and having similar schedules.

Therefore, the mechanism by which weight works in the Sims 4 remains a conundrum for many players.

If you’re curious to learn why your Sim suddenly got fat and how you can avoid that in the future, read on.

How do you gain and lose weight in the Sims 4?

Why has my Sim got fat?

There are four main reasons why your Sims get fat:

  • They’re not exercising
  • They’re eating too much
  • You rarely play the game
  • Sims got pregnant (female Sims).

If you want your Sim to stay fit, you need to convince them to exercise regularly. Sims lose weight from doing exercise, and they get the best results from jogging and treadmill.

Just as in real life, your Sims will gain weight if they’re not exercising. Having a sedentary lifestyle will slowly but surely lead to some extra kilos that will definitely become visible after a few weeks.

Sims can quickly put on weight if they’re eating a lot of quick meals or don’t work out regularly.

⇒ Fun Fact:

  • Did you know vampires can gain weight just like human Sims? However, the process is incredibly slow and requires drinking tens of Plasma Jane cocktails in a row.

Hit the gym

Send your Sims to the gym. Weight training helps them to lose weight much faster compared to jogging for example. If your Sim trains for 4 hours a day, the weight loss is immediate.

You’ll be able to see progress even during the exercise. Usually, after one week of training, your Sim will be much slimmer.

Make sure your Sims don’t overeat

Overeating is another common reason for weight gain. For example, if your Sim eats a whole cake, they will be visibly fatter after 5 or 6 hours.

In some cases, it may take as long as 24 hours for the weight gain to become visible but it will definitely appear.

Make sure your Sims are not eating a lot of high-calorie foods to keep their weight stable. Vegetarian foods are a safe option.

Keep in mind that each meal has calories. Your Sims will always put on weight unless they specifically do some form of exercise. Sims don’t burn any calories unless they’re specifically working out.

Play your Sims regularly

If you manage multiple households and you’re not playing your Sims regularly, they will get fat. Rest assured this is a game feature, not a bug. Townies you don’t play will eventually gain a lot of weight. They won’t stay the same all the time.

This feature was not available in the previous Sims version. I, for one, think this is a useful addition to the game.

Female Sims will naturally get fatter during and after pregnancy.

Toddlers and children can get fat too if they eat high-calorie foods too frequently.

How to stop Sims from getting fat?

Now that you know why your Sims have put on weight, it’s time to see how you can avoid that.

How to keep Sims fit:

Convince them to exercise regularly. Have them hit the gym. Or buy a punching bag for the backyard and have them practice boxing every two days.

Get them on a meal schedule and favor healthy low calorie foods over unhealthy foods.

Avoid alcoholic drinks.

Engage with your Sims regularly. If you own multiple households, make sure you interact will all your Sims at least once every two or three days.

Try the Taste of Diet ice cream

By the way, if you have Cool Kitchen Stuff, there’s an ice cream called Taste of Diet that Sims can eat. It should slim them down the first time they eat it. If nothing happens, let them have 3 or 4 bowls of ice cream.

You should quickly see positive results.

There you go, I hope the weight gain mechanism in The Sims 4 is clearer now.
