Sims with a green thumb can get very upset when their plants die. Let’s explore why your plants may suddenly die and how you can prevent that from happening.
Why do all my plants keep dying in Sims 4?
If you fail to look after your plants, they will quickly wither and die. When they die, all you can do is throw them away and start anew.
If you don’t water your plants, use the right fertilizer, remove the weeds, and spray them for bugs at the right moment, your plants will die. Shortly after, they’ll get the green stinky stuff coming off of them.
When you click on a dead plant, the only option available is “Dispose of dead plant”.
What kills your plants in The Sims 4
Underwatering
Make sure to water your plants regularly. Select your plants and check if the option to water them is available. This indicates your plants need water.
Too much heat
Heatwaves can quickly kill your plants. If possible, move your heat-sensitive plants inside during heat waves.
Under-fertilizing
If you don’t use the right amount of fertilizer, your plants will stop growing and eventually die.
Placing your plants in the wrong spot
Some plants love the sun, while others grow well in shade. Make sure to place your plants in the right spot to meet their needs.
If I were to use a single word to sum up all the cases above, that word would be neglect. Simply put, if you neglect your plants, they will die.
How to prevent plants from dying in Sims 4
Use planter boxes
Many Sims 4 players confirmed that using the planter boxes keeps the plants alive. If you have the Eco-Lifestyle pack, you can fabricate your own planter boxes.
They are self-watering, so there will be no water option when you select your plants. Additionally, plants don’t seem to be getting weeds either.
Do give this workaround a try and check the results.
Put your plants in the household inventory in build mode
Another quick workaround to prevent your plants from dying is to quickly put them in your household inventory in build mode. Then, you can put them back in the ground.
Of course, this may take a while if you have many plants.
By the way, even if your plants died, you can use cheats to revive them.
Or maybe this is just a temporary bug
If your Sim is a level 10 gardener and has the super green thumb trait, yet your plants keep dying, maybe this is a bug.
Check if other players complained about similar issues. If this problem started occurring shortly after you installed a new Sims 4 update or patch, then most likely, this is a bug that went undetected.
One telltale sign is that your plants never give you the option to water, weed, spray, or fertilize them. Report this bug to EA as quickly as possible.
