The Sims 4: Here’s how toddlers form attachments

Toddlers are always testing if the world they’re in is safe. If they’re in a bad mood or their needs are in the red, they’ll start feeling neglected.

When a Sim is caring for a toddler or spends a lot of time with them, the toddler will form a sense of attachment.

There are moodlets that will let you know how cared for and loved your toddler is feeling.

That’s a pretty good indication of how safe and happy they feel around you.

If your toddler is happy, they’ll get the Well Cared For moodlet.

Most of your Sim’s needs are attended to in prompt fashion. There’s not much more she could ask for.

When an infant has a good level of attachment, they won’t feel neglected when they’re crying because they trust someone will come and help them.

If they have a low level of attachment because help didn’t come in proper fashion in the past, they’ll feel sad. They’re almost sure their cries will go unanswered.

There are three reward traits that your toddler can unlock when they age up depending on the attachment type they formed.

There’s the Happy Infant reward trait for a Sim that formed a good bond with their caretaker.

Kids with this trait trust that Sims have good intentions.

The Unhappy Infant trait will make Sims more skeptical of other Sims. They’ll have a hard time trusting the intentions of those Sims.

Lack of affection and trust leads to trauma

The care, love, and affection that a Sim gets as a newborn and toddler help build a strong foundation for them as adults.

On the other hand, a lack of affection and trust can create trauma that will influence their behavior in adult life.

Happy Simming!
