In this Sims 4 Horse Ranch guide, I’ll show you how to take care of your horses and keep them happy and healthy. By forming a strong bond with your horses and regularly tending to their needs, you’ll see them thrive and perform their best.

How to Take Care of Horses in The Sims 4

Build a Functional Horse Stable

If your lot doesn’t already have a horse stable, you need to build one. Then, add an animal feeder, a horse water trough, and a horse bed.

If you’re planning to breed your horses, you can also get a Big Ball. Foals love playing with balls.

Assign a Bed to Your Horse

Assign each horse to a bed for them to sleep. You can only assign one horse per bed.

Remember to clean the beds regularly as the hay inside can get messy and smelly.

A clean bed will keep your horse in a better mood.

Clean Up Manure Piles

Keep an eye out for manure piles around the ranch and manually clean them up. Don’t throw the manure away. Use it to fertilize your crops.

As a matter of fact, horse manure is one of the best fertilizers to use in The Sims 4.

Keep the Feeders Full

Each horse needs an Animal Feeder. Keep it full to ensure your horses are well-fed and healthy.

You can let Wild Prairie Grass grow wild on your lot and harvest it to get hay for your horses.

Then, place your Prairie Grass harvest into the Animal Feeder to refill it and save 30 Simoleons.

Alternatively, you can let your horses graze freely on Prairie Grass on your lot.

You can also hand-feed fruits or vegetables to horses to bond with them.

Bond with Your Horses

Building a strong bond with your horse is essential.

Interact with your horse regularly to gain their trust and improve their behavior.

Click on your horse, and use friendly social interactions to improve your horse’s overall mood.

Having a strong bond with your horse helps them perform better in competition when there’s a lot of pressure to win.

⇒ Quick Tip:

Keep in mind that rescue horses often have negative traits. This makes bonding more difficult. But with enough love and care, you can turn them around and improve their behavior.

Brush your horses regularly to maintain their hygiene. Don’t forget to clean their hooves from time to time to keep them clean and healthy.

Train Your Horses and Level Up Their Kills

There are four horse skills that you can focus on Agility, Jumping, Endurance, and Temperament.

Maneuver your horses through horse barrels to work on their Agility.

Have them jump over obstacles to improve their Jumping skills.

Spend time talking and caring for them to improve their Temperament.

Take your horse on long rides to build their Endurance.

If you don’t train them, they’ll get bored.

By following these simple steps, you can ensure that your horses are happy, healthy, and perform better in training and competitions.

Enjoy taking care of your equine friends and watch them thrive on your Sim’s ranch!
