How to use solar panels in The Sims 4

If you want to live off the grid and generate power using solar energy in The Sims 4, you need to install lots of solar panels on your lot. They will also help you lower your eco-footprint.

There are two types of solar panels available in the game: ground and roof panels.

Ground solar panels harness the power of the sun to power your house. Just make sure to keep them clean. If you fail to do that, they won’t work at full capacity.

Each ground solar panel costs 675 Simoleons.

Roof solar panels can snatch the Sun’s rays and transform them into electricity. If it’s cloudy, you may not get as much power as needed.

You can buy roof solar panels for 850 Simoleons per piece.

Roof solar panels are more reliable than ground solar panels. They never break.

How many solar panels should I install?

To ensure a steady electricity supply, you need to install at least 5 solar panels for each household member. Three solar panels should give enough power to cook one meal.

Keep experimenting with adding additional solar panels until you find the right number.

The more electronic devices and household appliances you own, the more solar panels you need.

If you add the Geothermal lot trait, you’ll need fewer solar panels. Thanks to this lot trait, you can use geothermal energy to generate power and heat your house.

You won’t get instant power soon after you install your solar panels. You need to wait a bit until they capture enough electricity to power your household appliances.

How much power your solar panels generate depends on whether the weather is sunny or cloudy.

Make sure to place your solar panels in areas where there’s plenty of sunlight.

For example, if you place them in the snowy part of Mount Komorebi, they won’t work.

On the other hand, if you use solar panels in Selvadorada or Oasis Springs, they’ll work just great.

What to do with excess power in The Sims 4

To check how much power your solar panels have helped you save up, click on your mailbox and select Bill Information. You can sell or keep excess power.

If you sell it, it will lower your bills. If you keep it, it will power your household appliances.

Happy Simming!
