EA has released many interesting Sims 4 expansion packs over the years. But many gamers still feel there’s something missing from the game, and that’s horses. You can’t find them anywhere.
The Sims 4 My First Pet Stuff doesn’t have them. And there are no horses in The Cottage Living expansion pack either.
The Sims 4 does not include horses as a playable feature.
Well, at least SimGuruRomeo explained why EA decided not to add horses to Cottage Living, an expansion packed many hoped would finally introduce horses to the game.
Here’s what he said about this topic:
Making horses with the quality and depth of gameplay they deserve is a substantial undertaking. We felt they are not core to the garden-to-table experience, so we focused on the animals that are in Cottage Living.
As a quick reminder, The Sims 3 had horses, and many gamers enjoyed them a lot.
Why aren’t there horses in The Sims 4?
Adding horses to The Sims 4 requires a lot of complex interactions, and ideally, an open world, which the game doesn’t have.
Even if you had horses in The Sims 4, they would not be able to go anywhere off the home lot.
Of course, they could roam around the neighborhood but that is not much of a ride.
Moreover, horses are not as universal or everyday a thing as cats and dogs, for example. Well, at least not in suburbia.
Very few Sims families can realistically house a horse on their home lot.
Keep in mind that EA is a business. They use their resources for the things they think will bring the best return. If they decide that more profit can be made elsewhere else, then they will focus on that direction.
Will The Sims 4 ever have horses?
The Sims 4 is lacking in a lot of things, but hopefully, horses will be part of the game in the near future.
Maybe horses won’t be as useful as they were in The Sims 3 since players don’t have an open world anymore, but they’ll definitely spice up the game.
EA knows gamers want horses, but making new packs takes a lot of time, sometimes even years.
As a quick reminder, Cottage Living was hinted at by a Sim Guru as far back as the fall of 2019, but was officially announced only two years later!
Maybe they are already working on horses, who knows?

If you really miss horses and you’re not opposed to modding, you can download The Sims 4 Farm Life mod. While the animation may seem broken at times, you can ride horses in the neighborhood.
