The Sims 4 Cottage Living: Meet the animals

sims-4-cottage-living-animals

If you’ve always dreamt of living on a farm surrounded by animals, you’ll definitely love the new Sims 4 Cottage Living expansion pack. As expected, animals, and farm animals in particular, play an important role in this release. Without further ado, here’s everything you need to know about animals in Cottage Living.

Meet the animals from The Sims 4 Cottage Living farm

Cows and Llamas

  • You can add Animal Sheds to your lot and then buy a cow or llama for that shed. There is room for only one cow or llama in each shed.
  • You can place multiple sheds in a fenced area to create a mini pasture of cows if you want to.
  • Both Cows and Llamas usually stay near their sheds.

Chickens

  • Sims can also buy chicken coops and host up to 8 chickens per coop.
  • You can only breed Chickens. You cannot breed wild animals. Make sure to have a Rooster and a Hen in the same coop for that to happen.
  • Angry chickens can kill Sims.
  • Foxes are truly wild, you can’t add them to your household. And yes, they will constantly try to sneak into your chicken coop. So, don’t forget to keep your chicken coops safe from foxes.

Bunnies and Birds

  • You can find Bunnies and Birds out in the wild.
  • You can buy and place bird and rabbit homes on your lot to attract wild Bunnies and Birds. Befriend them and they’ll visit your farm quite frequently. Wild Rabbits and Birds can sometimes bring you various gifts.
  • If you want Rabbits to hand around your lot more often, you can build a stronger relationship with them and even name them.
  • You can’t place rabbit homes on your lot unless you have a strong relationship with bunnies.
  • Keep in mind that you can’t cage Rabbits. It’s always nicer when they can roam freely on your lot. They will come and go as they please. You can’t control their behavior.
  • Bunnies are self-sufficient, you don’t need to feed them or care for them.
  • You can place rabbit homes on any lot. However, initially, you’ll only find them in the new world.
  • By the way, Bunnies and Birds can be of real help in the garden.

Horses

Unfortunately, horses are not part of the Cottage Living expansion pack. Many users expressed their disappointment, suggesting that horses would be an excellent addition for the expansion.

SimGuruRomeo explained that “making horses with the quality and depth of gameplay they deserve is a substantial undertaking. We felt they are not core to the garden-to-table experience, so we focused on the animals that are in Cottage Living”.

Hopefully, SimGurus will add horses in a future expansion. Who knows, maybe we’ll get a full-fledged equestrian pack some time in the future!

Good to know

  • Cows, Llamas, Chickens, Bunnies, and Birds will not take up any slot in your household.

  • All the animals on your farm will eventually die of old age. The good news is that there are a few methods you can use to prevent that from happening.

  • Animals are not available in CAS but you can buy different colors of Cows, Chickens, and Llamas.
  • Your Sims can make a living raising and caring for their animals. However, there’s no farming career path per-se.
  • Sims with the Animal Enthusiast Trait love taking care of animals.

  • By the way, different treats can change the color of your llama’s wool, or  the appearance of your chickens.
  • You can gather milk, eggs and wool from your farm animals and use these items to cook meals or knit clothes.

Breath the countryside air and enjoy the farm life to the fullest!
