Limitations to editing family relationships in The Sims 4

To make two Sims siblings, they should all be about the same age. For example, this option is not available if one Sim is a teen and the other is an adult.

If you’re only getting the option for Parent/Child, this means your Sims are of different ages.

If your Sims already have a relationship, you can’t edit it in CAS. When you try to do that, the game will tell you that you cannot edit pre-existing Sims.

To work your way around this limitation, you need to delete the existing relationship. Only after deleting the existing relationship can you assign a new one in CAS.

You can use MCCC to delete existing relationships. Open MCCC, go to Relationships, and select Delete Relationship.

You can then go to CAS, and assign a new relationship. Change your Sim’s age if that’s necessary.

Alternatively, you can use MCCC to edit your Sim’s relationships and age them back to what they were.

⇒ Quick Tip:

Refrain from editing your Sims in CAS after using MCCC to change their relationships. When you try to edit your Sims in CAS, the game will reset every relationship cheat you’ve done with MCCC.

To fix that, you need to exit CAS and edit your Sim’s relationships again with MCCC.

Relationships in the family tree

The Sims 4 will only display 10 Sim generations in the family tree.

Don’t be surprised if various family members suddenly disappear from the family tree. The game automatically culls Sims once the max number of Sims has been reached.

Happy Simming!
