The “Discuss expanding the family” interaction encourages Sims to get pregnant and have bigger families. Sims will turn up pregnant shortly after you use this interaction. They’ll call you to let you know they just had a baby.
This feature was probably the trigger point for all those surprise pregnancies in your game.
If you think about it, this option is really convenient.
Instead of investing tens of Sim hours into building romantic relationships with other Sims and getting them pregnant, you can just discuss expanding the family.
The next thing you know, they tell you they’re pregnant or just had a baby.
You get the results you want without doing the work.
If you have MCCC, you don’t have to wait that long until you get the big news.
If you’re not using mods, discussing expanding the family is pretty much the only way to keep families moving. You need to tell Sims what to do, who to date, and when to have kids.
Sims don’t want to talk about expanding the family
Sims may sometimes refuse to talk about expanding the family even if you have a strong relationship with them.
They’ll just say they don’t feel comfortable having that discussion.
This usually happens after experiencing a strong negative emotion. Let them get passed that event, use a few Friendly and Funny interactions, and try again.
Strange things may happen after discussing expanding the family
The “Discuss expanding the family” interaction may trigger some really strange events too.
For example, Sims that have never woohooed, and Sims who are in same-sex relationships can get pregnant after discussing expanding the family.
Discussing expanding the family works for same-sex couples too. They can have biological children after you suggest they should do something to expand their family.
This is not supposed to happen. Let’s just say it’s a slip.
Discuss expanding the family disappeared
The option to discuss expanding the family disappears after your Sims get married.
This interaction is a part of Neighborhood Stories. This game feature lets you influence the lives of Sims that are not part of your household.
After getting married, Sims move in together. Your Sim’s partner joins your household. You no longer need to discuss expanding the family, you can simply get down to business.
Happy Simming!
