Back in May 2021, EA and Maxis revealed their plans to add non-binary pronouns to The Sims 4. SimsGuruDuck has recently revealed more details about how customizable pronouns work in the game.

This new feature is near and dear to many Sims 4 players. As  SimsGuruDuck perfectly summed everything up, gender neutrality plays a crucial part in creating a fully inclusive society. Gender-neutral pronouns are not just for non-binary people. Let’s jump right in!

How to use customizable pronouns in Sims 4

When you go to the Create-a-Sim screen, you’ll see a new section “Hello, my name and pronouns are…“. You can use the drop-down menu to select the pronoun options you want to use. The pronouns will then appear next to your Sim’s name.

There are four options available:

  • He/him/his
  • She/her/hers
  • They/them/theirs
  • A custom option that allows you to type in any pronouns you want to use.

The game will then show you how the respective pronouns will work in a sentence. Rest assured, the option also comes with a profanity filter.

The devs are planning to continuously improve customizable pronouns. Hopefully, players will get the first generation of this feature this year. This is an ongoing developing process.

Customizable pronouns will allow for more freedom of expression for Sims 4 players. The devs have faced a lot of difficulties translating gender-neutral pronouns into 18 different languages.

Customizable pronouns will be coming to the English version of The Sims 4 first, followed by the other languages the game supports.

Keep in mind this is all work in progress. Certain options and settings may change by the time EA and Maxis roll out customizable pronouns.
