What’s new in the Sims 4 Infants Update? [Base Game]

The Sims 4 Infants Update brings a lot of cool objects that you can use to build and decorate nurseries.

You’ll get new bookshelves, new llama toys, and new rugs with cheerful and colorful patterns to decorate your nursery with.

By the way, there’s also a new bassinet design coming for free to the base game.

This is the first bassinet that EA has added to the game ever since The Sims 4 was officially released 9 years ago.

Let’s take a quick look at some of the most important objects packed in this update.

What’s new in The Sims 4 Infants Update?

Special fences to babyproof your house

You can use colorful fences to create an enclosed space for your toddlers where you know they’re going to be safe.

You can use this option to babyproof your entire house.

Simply click on the door you want to lock for toddlers and select Apply Baby Proofing.

Wild toddlers may try to break loose. They can force babyproofed doors and try to get out but success is not guaranteed.

New cribs

Many of the cribs that come with The Sims 4 Infants base game update may seem familiar to you.

And you’re right.

This is because they match the other furniture pieces available in the game.

This means you can design a matching nursery using the new cribs and the existing furniture pieces.

The cribs can have different functionalities, depending on what you want to use them for.

Some of the toddler beds can be upgraded and converted into a crib when you need one. The upgrade costs 50 Simoleons.

This is a handy option if you want to use what you already have and save some Simoleons at the same time.

Upgrading your existing toddler bed into a crib allows your furniture to age along with your Sims.

Add a crib mobile

You also have the option to add a crib mobile. Hang it above your baby or toddler’s crib to stimulate their visual and motor development.

Gaining new motor skills will unlock interesting milestones for your infants.

Wiggly toddlers need soothing when you put them in their crib.

If you have a crib mobile, you can click on it and let it play a lullaby to help your tot go to sleep a little bit easier and sleep better.

You can choose between a space crib mobile or a bird crib mobile.

Travel Cribs

If your Sims want to spend some time outdoors, they can grab a travel crib and bring their toddlers with them. You can place it in your inventory and bring it with you to other locations.

You’ll always have a place for your infant to grab a rest when you’re on the go.

Newborn changes and improvements

EA has added a ton of changes and improvements to make newborns fit into the game a little bit better.

With the new InfantsUpdate, you’ll notice that babies look a bit different.

Babies now have the same skin range tone possibilities as the other Sims. They look much more natural now.

They now have genetically matching eye colors.

They also move a bit differently. The devs implemented all those changes to skew them a bit younger.

The caregiver will automatically respond when a baby’s crying.
If you have Seasons, newborns will react to being outside.

If there’s a storm outside or extreme temperature, they’ll start crying to let you know they don’t like what’s happening.

Children and toddlers have got a new interaction called Entertain which allows them to be silly and spend time with their little siblings.

It takes less time for a newborn to automatically age up into an infant.

Since that life stage refers to the first days of a child’s life, EA has shortened that time a little bit.

On the other hand, the other ages have been extended to make sure your Sims can see the little ones grow up and maybe even live to see them have children of their own.

Smoother transitions

EA has also smoothed out caring for newborns. Sims can now continue holding them and seamlessly transition between interactions.

The Show Off interaction is now easier to complete.
