If there’s a bad odor in your Sim’s apartment that’s making them Tense, find where the green stink is coming from. Then, build a square around the odor source. Delete the square and the source of the bad smell should disappear too.
Your Sims will often experience this bad odor issue in City Living. They’ll also get the Unsettled by Odor buff: Something smells dank in this apartment and is making Sims unsettled.
Here’s what you can do if you can’t pinpoint the exact source of the bad smell.
Bad smell is the norm for the Needs TLC lot trait
If your Sim lives in one of the Needs TLC apartments, the bad smell is part of the lot trait. The green cloud of stink often comes from something under the rug.
Unfortunately, there’s nothing you can do to permanently remove it.
What you can do is clean everything when it starts smelling. You’ll have to do that everytime your Sim senses the bad odor.
After cleaning everything up, the bad odor will appear again. You’ll just have to deal wih it.
Alternatively, you can also call the landlor and ask them to take care of the problem.
Check for dirty plates
Dirty plates can cause bad odor to accumulate in your Sim’s apartment. If you use the TOOL mod, you may have downsized a plate without even noticing it. That could explain why you can’t see what exactly is causing the smell.
It’s not uncommon for plates to get stuck inside walls when you’re changing something in your apartment’s configuration. Delete the wall you suspect the odor is coming from. If the odor persists, delete the floor as well.
Sims have an annoying way of storing dirty plates. They often put them on shelves and forget to clean them up. The bad odor could be coming from the dirty plates your Sim put on the kitchen shelves and forgot about.
Another interesting tip shared by a fellow Simmer suggests you should put a dirty plate near the odor source and then have your Sim clean it up. Hopefully, they’ll clean everything up, not just the dirty plate.
If the bad smell persists for days on end, your Sim will get the Filthy Surroundings moodlet that will make them even more Tense.
Sims won’t die from low hygiene and filth but will feel miserable.
You’d better hurry up and do something about that bad smell fast.
