If two Sims that were romantically involved broke up and had their relationship degraded until they became two strangers, they can get back together but they need to start all over again. They need to engage in multiple friendly interactions until the romantic interactions become available again.
If you want to help your Sims rekindle their relationship after a breakup, the tips listed below will come in handy.
How to Make ex-Sims Get Back Together
- If your Sims are still listed as exes on the relationship pane, you need to remove the ex-husband and ex-wife status first.
- To do this, you need to wait until whatever happened between them is no longer labeled as a negative relationship. Keep in mind that the Betrayed moodlet will block all romantic relationships for a while.
- Then, go to Friendly Interactions and find the Ask to just be friends option. In this manner, you’ll remove the ex-status and they can work on building a romantic relationship again.
- When the Go Steady option comes up, you can take things further. Keep in mind that the Go Steady option won’t show up unless you cancel the exes status first.

Go to the Romance Festival to get broken up Sims back together
If you want to speed things up a bit, have your Sims be friends again before the Romance Festival takes place. Then, make sure they both attend the festival and drink the cherry blossom tea together. This is a trick to boost the chance of romance.
Once they sipped the tea, select your ex and click on the Joke about getting together option. Then select any romantic option available to take advantage of their open mood. If you play your cards well enough, the date might even end in a marriage proposal.
An alternative method
Other players suggested that encouraging friendly interactions is not really necessary to fix a broken relationship in The Sims 4. They said they managed to get their Sims back together by doing repeated romantic interactions. It appears that you need to initiate at least 15 romantic interactions until the Friends bar maxes out.
But if you try loads of romantic interactions without pausing for a while, one of the Sims will eventually get annoyed or even creeped out.
At that moment, the Go Steady option should become available. However, there’s also the possibility that one of the Sims might have entered a new romantic relationship with another Sim. If this is the case, they need to break up first so that your Sim may focus on getting back together with their ex.
Important note: When working on rebuilding the relationship that your Sims lost, the relationship bar of one of them will always get up slower than that of the other Sim. It’s as if the Sim that got hurt the most by the breakup is somehow reluctant to give their ex-partner another chance.
