Sims 4: What to do if you can’t build a rocket

fix-cant-build-rocket-sims-4

If your Sim is pursuing the Astronaut Career, building and upgrading a rocket is crucial to the Rocket Science skill. Unfortunately, many Sims 4 players complained they can’t build rockets. They can buy the rocket ship kit, place the rocket but cannot interact with it. Let’s explore what you can do to fix this problem.

Fix: Can’t build a rocket in Sims 4

Fix 1: Ask an NPC to start building the rocket

Invite a townie over, make a group with them and use the Build Together interaction. Let the NPC start building the rocket. Then you can continue the job.

By the way, you can use the rocket at GeekCon for running space missions. If you’re playing the Scientist career lab, you should be able to build your rocket at GeekCon.

Fix 2: Use the Build Rocket (DEBUG) option

  1. Purchase the 5000 Simoleons rocket launchpad.
  2. Then place the rocket launchpad on your lot.
  3. Press CRTL, SHIFT, and C to enable cheats.
  4. Enter testingcheats on.
  5. Then press SHIFT, and right-click on the launchpad.
  6. Select Build Rocket (DEBUG).
  7. The game will automatically build the rocket.
  8. Add all of the necessary upgrades.

While this workaround doesn’t solve the issue of not being able to build a rocket from scratch, the progress does count towards completing your aspiration.

Fix 3: Repair your game files

If your game files got corrupted, don’t be surprised if certain game features won’t work. Go to your Origin library, right-click on Sims 4, and select the Repair option.

Then, go to your Electronic Arts folder, and open The Sims 4 folder. Open your Documents folder, and locate the Cache folder. Delete the localthumbcache file.

Restart your computer, launch The Sims 4 again, and check if you can build a rocket now.

Fix 4: Disable mods and CC

Make sure your mods are not interfering with your Sim’s rocket building skills. Move your Mods folder to your desktop, and check if you can build a rocket.

If the issue is gone, move your mods one by one back to your Sims 4 folder. Check if you can still build your rocket after adding each mod back to identify the culprit.

Once the problematic mod identified, either update it or keep it on your desktop to prevent it from breaking the game again.

Cottage Living is breaking rocket building

Many Sims 4 players complained about Cottage Living breaking the rocket building feature. It seems that the Finchwick Fair from Cottage Living is breaking the rocket kit.

You should be able to build a rocket in a new save without any problems before the first Saturday hits and the Finchwick Fair takes place. After the Fair, new rocket kits will stop working.

The worst part if that you don’t even need to attend or enter the Finchwick Fair. The simple fact that they take place is enough to break the rocket building feature.

Conclusion

If you can’t build a rocket in Sims 4, ask an NPC to start building the rocket for you. Alternatively, you can also use the Build Rocket (DEBUG) option. If the issue persists, repair your game files, and disable mods and CC.

  1. None of these things worked for my play. I checked another game play that let me build a rocket. Nothing is telling me I need a certian skill level before starting a rocket but I don’t know what else to do.
