Sims 4 Crashes With a Blue Screen of Death Error | Fix it

So, you launched Sims 4, and you got to the screen where the plumb-bob slides as the game keeps loading. But all of a sudden, the loading icon stops spinning and freezes before the loading screen appears. And then, lo and behold, a Blue Screen of Death error rears its ugly head.

How many of you are already familiar with this scenario? Or that one when you try to save a Sim or another game item to your library only to get a BSOD error instead?

For some of you, restarting your computer may temporarily fix the problem. But after a few hours or days, you’ll get another BSOD error.

Keep in mind that while the first or the second solution may solve the issue for many gamers, some of you may need to use all the methods listed below in order to fix the game. Let’s dive right in.

How to Fix Sims 4 BSOD Errors

⇒ Quick solution: Try removing your mods and custom content by simply moving your Mods folder to your desktop. Outdated mods might trigger BSOD errors by blocking the game from loading. Updating them or not using them for a while can solve your problem.

Fix 1 – Update your drivers

Running the latest graphics drivers when playing Sims 4 is crucial if you want to avoid technical issues. And outdated drivers are known to cause Blue Screen of Death issues.

You can update your video card drivers by launching the Device Manager. Then, right-click on your graphics card and select Update device.

Or you can manually install the latest drivers from your GPU manufacturer’s website:

Fix 2 – Turn off Origin In-Game

In-Game is a very useful feature that allows gamers to do other things such as browsing the Internet or chatting with friends without closing the game they’re playing.

But sometimes, disabling In-Game may help solve some serious glitches affecting your game.

To disable Origin In-Game in Sims 4, launch Origin → go to My Game Library  → right-click on Sims 4  → SelectProperties  → uncheck the option Enable Origin In-Game for this game.

Fix 3 – Launch Sims 4 in offline as an administrator

Another thing that you could try (that solve the problem for some players) is to run Sims 4 in offline mode. But first, make sure to run the game as an administrator by right-clicking on it and then selecting the Run as administrator option.

Additionally, you can also try to run the game in windowed mode and check if that helps.

Fix 4 – Run Sims 4 in Compatibility mode

Running the game in compatibility mode could also help. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Right-click on the Sims 4 icon
  2. Select Properties
  3. Click on the Compatibility tab
  4. Check the following boxes: Run this program in compatibility mode for and Run this program as administratorrun program compatibility mode
  5. Save the changes and launch the game again.

Fix 5 – Repair the game

This option is particularly useful is some of your game files got corrupted or accidentally deleted. Using this repair feature is very useful: all you need to do is right-click on Sims 4 in your game library and select the Repair option.

Fix 6 – Clean boot your computer

If there’s a third party program causing memory corruption or leak leading to BSOD errors, you can easily fix it by clean booting your computer. This method puts your computer in a safer state by running only the programs and scripts that are absolutely necessary for the OS.
