How does Sleep work in Elden Ring?

Elden-Ring-how-sleep-works

Sleep is an insanely powerful weapon in Elden Ring. Bosses and enemies that are vulnerable to Sleep will stay asleep for one minute if you don’t attack them. However, they will wake up as soon as you hit them.

The good news is that you can use Sleep again as soon as your opponents start to wake up. They’ll go to sleep and stay asleep until you hit them again.

Is Sleep any good in Elden Ring?

Sleep is a handy mechanic that builds up like any other Elden Ring status. It’s very effective, especially against small enemies allowing you to put them to sleep for roughly one minute. That should give you enough time to critically hit them and take them out.

You can also use Sleep to chip away at a boss’s health without getting hit.

For example, you can use Sleep to defeat the Godskin Duo while still being under-leveled. Or you can put giant bears to sleep to render them harmless at least for a little while.

However, keep in mind that some bosses and enemies are either immune to Sleep or Sleep-resistant. Simply put, Sleep has no effects on them or they’ll only stagger for a little while.

Sleep doesn’t work that well on large enemies and really powerful bosses. It only staggers them for a few seconds, but they’ll quickly snap out of it.

Nevertheless, Sleep should give you enough time to deliver a few quick hits. However, you won’t be able to deliver a coup de grace like on small enemies.

How to inflict Sleep in Elden Ring

You can use one of the following weapons and items to inflict Sleep in Elden Ring:

  • The Sword of St. Trina
  • St. Trina’s Arrow
  • Sleep pots
  • Soporific Grease
  • Mists of Slumber
  • Fires of Slumber
  • Sleepbone arrows and bolts

Quick Tips

  • St.  Trina’s sword may be a bit too short-ranged for some players.
  • The Pulley Crossbow is one of the best weapons that you can use to inflict bosses and enemies with Sleep from range.
  • You can craft Sleep pots using cracked pots.

Can I use Sleep on other Elden Ring players?

You can inflict Sleep on other Elden Ring players but they won’t actually go to sleep. They’ll typically get stunned for one or two seconds. Sleep is more effective in PvE than PvP.

Elden Ring players can mitigate the effect of Sleep by adding Mind Points and raising Focus.

Conclusion

Sleep is highly overlooked in Elden Ring but it’s definitely very useful for PvE. Use Sleep to bring slumber to bosses and enemies and render them defenseless for up to one minute. They won’t be able to move or attack but will wake up as soon as you hit them.

And now you know.
