Elden Ring: Should I serve Ranni?

If Ranni just asked you to enter her service but you’re not sure whether that’s a good idea or not, you’ve come to the right place. In this quick guide, we’ll show you what happens if you decide to accept or decline her offer.

Should I serve Ranni in Elden Ring?

You should definitely serve Ranni if you want to embark on a complex and fascinating questline that rewards you with the Dark Moon Greatsword. Serving Ranni also unlocks the Age of the Stars ending which is one of the better endings to Elden Ring.

In other to enter Ranni’s service, you must first defeat Radahn or Queen of the Full Moon. If you fail to do that, this means you are not worthy of serving her yet.

What happens if I don’t serve Ranni?

If you choose not to serve Ranni, you can continue your quest to find the Ertree. Not serving her will lock you out of the Age of the Stars ending. The good news is that you can always change your mind, go back to Ranni and accept to serve her to unlock this ending.

What happens during Ranni’s questline

Ranni will ask you to find the hidden treasure of Nokron. You also need to talk to her associates: War Counselor Iji, Blaidd, and Seluvis. You can find them on the first floor of the tower. By the way, if you’re stuck in Ranni’s Tower, this means you haven’t exhausted all the dialog lines with her assistants.

You’ll learn that Starscourge Radahn stopped the stars, and one of your missions is to defeat him. Head to the Redmane Castle, and defeat Radahn to free the stars.

After killing Radahn, go to the centre of Nokron and pick up the Finger Slayer Blade. The blade is the secret treasure of Nokron. Give it to Ranni. As a reward, you’ll get a Carian Inverted Statue that you can use at the Carian Study Hall.

After that, head to Renna’s Rise, find the Miniature Ranni Doll and talk to it at a Site of Grace. Your next task is to kill the Baleful Shadow. Head to Nokstella and defeat this enemy. As a reward, you’ll get the Discarded Palace Key. Use it to unlock the chest in the Raya Lucaria Grand Library to uncover the Dark Moon Ring.

The next step on the list is defeating Astel, Naturalborn of the Void. After killing this enemy, go to the Cathedral of Manus Celes where you’ll find Ranni’s body. Put the ring on her finger to claim the Dark Moon Greatsword.

The Dark Moon Greatsword gives you the the option of completing the Age of the Stars ending.
