Knight Bernthal, aka The Warmaster is an Elden Ring NPC you’ll encounter at the Warmaster’s Shack in Stormhill. Many NPCs drop really cool weapons and items if you kill them. Let’s find out if killing The Warmaster is a good idea or not.

Should I kill The Warmaster in Elden Ring?

You should definitely not kill The Warmaster in Elden Ring. He is related to the Volcano Manor questline that unlocks better weapons and armor. Spare the Warmaster, and do his quest later to unlock the Raging Wolf armor and a handy sorcery.

There is no reason to kill the Warmaster, you’ll get his armor later anyway.

What happens if I kill Knight Bernthal in Elden Ring?

If you kill Knight Bernthal, aka the Warmaster before completing the Volcano Manor questline, you can’t get the Bloody Wolf armor in your current playthrough. You’ll lock yourself out of his side quest.

The Warmaster drops the Bone Peddler’s Bell Bearing when killed. You can give this item to the twin skeleton merchant at the Roundtable and access his shop inventory.

Keep in mind that you can’t use Celestial Dew to revive the Warmaster at the Church of Vows. However, if you accidentally aggro him, and he refuses to talk to you, use Celestial Dew to atone at the Church of Vows and cancel his hostility towards you.

Well, if you really want to kill the Warmaster, do it only after completing the Volcano Manor questline.

Killing NPCs is Elden Ring is often a bad idea as this locks you out of their questlines.

⇒ Quick Tip: Visit the Warmaster’s Shack at night, and you’ll find a different enemy to fight if you really want to show off your combat skills.

  1. It was curiosity and a strange bloodlust I felt. Had no idea about the side quest. Only googled it after I killed him. Hope as a faith based lightening priest type that I dont need his quest

  2. I’m like “if I kill him, will I get his sword and armour?”. Lucky for him and me, I googled beforehand. Now he and I are friends. P.S this is my first ever playthrough of Elden Ring and I love it!!! And I’ve never played a Souls game😅
