Elden Ring: Gowry is dead, what do I do next?

Elden-Ring-Gowry-killed

Unexpected things may sometimes happen in Elden Ring. For example, a big dog may kill Gowry the Sage while you’re talking to him.

What options have you got left when such an unexpected event unfolds before your eyes? Let’s find out!

What happens when Gowry dies in Elden Ring?

Gowry does respawn after he dies. If he dies before you accept his quest, simply spawn at a Grace Site, rest there for a while, and then go back to his shack. You’ll find him there.

Alternatively, if you don’t want to go to a Site of Grace, you can light the flames on the little towers in Sellia. When you light them, the doors should open. You can get to the towers by jumping on the roofs with your horse.

Gowry is an important NPC but he’s also very fragile. If you accidentally punch him or hit him with your sword, he’ll die instantly. He’ll hit the bucket on the spot after getting mauled by the monster dog.

If Gowry dies at his shack, you’ll see that his body is actually that of a Prawn Miner. The game then suggests that he continues to exist elsewhere. That’s why he quickly respawns at his shack after you or the dog kill him.

Give the Unalloyed Gold Needle to Gowry

After accepting Gowry’s quest and defeating Commander O’Neil, you’ll receive the Unalloyed Gold Needle. Go back to Gowry’s shack and give the needle to him. In return, he’ll give you Sellia’s Secrets.

As a quick reminder, Gowry will sell you Glintstone Stars, Night Shard and Night Maiden’s Mist if you manage to unlock these items during Millicent’s quest. You can use these items to cast Invisibility spells.

And now you know.
