Elden-Ring-black-knife-assassin-lore

The Black Knife Assassins are optional bosses in Elden Ring. You can find them in the Deathtouched Catacombs, Black Knife Catacombs, Sainted Hero’s Grave, and Sage’s Cave. But they also show up unexpectedly and kill Iji.

What’s the lore behind these assassins? Where do they come from? Let’s find out.

Who are the Black Knife Assassins?

The Black Knife Assassins were a group of assassins that carried out the deeds of the Night of the Black Knives. They killed Godwyn which marked the death of the first demigod. Godwyn the Golden, the first born of the Golden Lineage, the son of Godfrey and Queen Marika was the victim of a plot that the Black Knife Assassins were an active part of.

The Black Knife Assassins were all women, and rumored to be Numen who had close ties with Marika. Numens are rumored to come from outside The Lands Between. They appear to be of the same kind as Queen Marika.

These details are available with the discovery of the Black Knife Set and Numen Rune.

The Black Knife Set reads as follows:

The assassins that carried out the deeds of the Night of the Black Knives were all women, and rumored to be Numen who had close ties with Marika herself.

Then, the Numen Rune reads as follows:

The Numen are said to have come from outside the Lands Between, and are in fact of the same stock as Queen Marika herself.

When talking about the Black Knife Fingerprint, Sorcerer Rogier says:

You recall our conversation about the Night of the Black Knives, yes? They say the assassins who carried out the deed were scions of the Eternal City. A group entirely of women…

Conclusion

The Black Knife Assassins stole the Death Ring and used it to murder Godwyn the Golden during the Night of the Black Knives. They were important women of the Eternal City and had close ties to Queen Marika. They also attacked Blaidd, driving him crazy, and killed Iji the Giant.
