Fortnite is a battle royale game that needs no introduction. It has a player base of over 200M making it one of the most popular games in history.
Darwin Project is a newly launched battle royale game that’s slowly but surely gaining momentum. It has a player base of tens of thousands of players with more gamers joining the fun every day.
If you’re curious to learn what are the main differences between these two games, keep on reading this guide. I played both games and here’s what I found.
Darwin Project vs Fortnite: What you need to know
Graphics: Long story short, graphics details are better in Fortnite. That’s the first difference players will notice when launching Darwin Project.
Controls: Fortnite offers better controls than Darwin Project. Sometimes, the controls might feel a bit clunky. However, you can improve Darwin Project’s controls by tweaking the settings. But this requires some extra work which is not the case in Fortnite.
Battle royale innovation: This is the chapter where Darwin Project scores higher. The game introduced a series of new concepts and characters on the battle royale game scene, such as the Show Director or the Spectator Experience.
The streaming experience: Darwin Project is more community oriented than Fortnite and makes for a very fun game to stream and watch. Viewers can interact more with gamers compared to Fortnite. For example, the Vote button lets viewers suggest how the action should unfold. Viewers can suggest the Director what powers to use and when.
The survival element: Fortnite is pretty much kill or be killed. Darwin Project brings a massive survival element into the gameplay. Players need to constantly think about managing their resources, finding new resources and crafting all the items they need in order to survive. Not to mention that arrows are some of the most important tools to have but they’re quite rare.
The element of surprise: This is mainly created by the Show Director. Darwin Project players need to adapt as quickly as possible to the actions of the Director. Sometimes, the Director may choose to help certain players, while other times they may launch a massive manhunt against particular players. The element of surprise is connected to the survival element described above. Fortnite has a pretty linear course of action. But you never know what the Director is going to do in Darwin Project.
Strategy: Darwin Project challenges gamers to play strategically. Right before entering the game, players can select a limited number of resources which will influence the manner they play the game.
The number of players on the map: Darwin Players has a maximum number of 10 players per map. Fortnite can host up to 100 players which makes it extremely difficult to stay alive. Having fewer players on the map makes gamers feel more engaged. On the other hand, less experienced players have more chances to stay alive for longer and enjoy the game. It’s simply less frustrating.
Voice chat: The voice chat experience makes Darwin Project even more fun to play. The chat is very engaging, the players can communicate with one another and enjoy an overall friendly atmosphere. In Fortnite, unless you’re in a squad, you won’t really get to communicate much with the other players.
Better mechanics: Darwin Project doesn’t involve that much jumping around. The movements are more realistic and that includes the fight mechanics as well.
