What Is Zerging?

what is zerging definition

Zerging is an attack tactic where you attack your opponent with a large group  of unskilled units before they have time to build their defense.

Simply put, you strike before they’re ready for battle. The main idea is to take out the enemy while avoiding to take out fatal damage as a group.

At the same time, gamers can also team up to form a zerg and attack another opponent simultaneously. The idea is for low-level players to unite so as to increase the damage they can deliver to the target.

Unskilled Low-Level Players Take On a Big Target

This tactic in usually employed in strategy games and online role-playing games. The player that launches the attack relies on the overwhelmingly large numbers of disposable units sent to attack the target. They’re not actually relying on their units skills or strategy to successfully defeat the enemy.

Zerging is generally used by low-level gamers that place their bets on their overwhelming number of units to obtain victory.

So, Zerging means defeating the opponent through overwhelming numbers or relying on numbers rather than skill.

Zerg Word Origin

The term zerg comes from Starcraft. In the game, there’s a race of aliens that uses a particular strategy to attack enemies. More specifically, the Zerg often swarm their enemies with superior numbers.

Players can use the Zerg to attack their opponents before they’re ready for battle. So, again, they rely on overwhelming numbers to defeat their enemies.

And this is where the terms Zerg and Zerging originate from.
