Get ready: Project Rene revamps The Sims franchise

The-Sims-4-Project-Rene

EA and Maxis have offered Simmers a quick sneak peek into the future of The Sims franchise during the Behind The Sims Summit Stream Event.

Main takeaways:

  • Collaborative play across different devices
  • Solo and multiplayer modes
  • New building and customization options
  • A new Buy Catalog Category for mods and CC

Here’s what Lindsay Pearson, the VP of Franchise Creative for The Sims shared about the future of the franchise:

“We are building the next-generation Sims game and creative platform reimagining the Sims you know and love with new ways to play. This is the future of The Sims built on a foundation of charming Sims, powerful tools, and meaningful stories.

This future requires us to stay true to what The Sims has always been while pushing to evolve how those Sims think and behave, to push tools further when creating and customizing, and to explore innovative ways to not only tell stories but to collaborate on those stories and creations with your closest friends across your favorite devices.

The Sims has always evolved to reflect you, our players, and your experiences. We have a growing team focused on this game working alongside The Sims 4 and Mobile teams. […]

Today marks the start of our journey over the next few years. Our working title for this generation is Project Rene.”

New creative tools for builders

Color wheel

Project Rene will revamp The Sims UI. EA will add a handy color wheel that you can use to quickly change the color of in-game objects.

You’ll also be able to change patterns and shapes when you build and decorate thanks to new dedicated tools.

Project Rene will also make it easier to work together with fellow Simmers and share your creations.

They’ll get added to your library and the Buy Catalog category.

Buy Catalog

EA and Maxis are working with Overwolf to bring safe and curated mods and CC to the community.

As EA revealed during the official Behind The Sims Summit Stream Event suggests, the new UI will let you upload your creations to the Buy Catalog.

This is not The Sims 5

During the Behind The Sims Summit Stream Event, EA never said they were working on The Sims 5.

Despite the hype, I don’t think Project Rene is The Sims 5. The main goal of this project is to revive The Sims 4. EA and Maxis can then use the end result as a basis to develop The Sims 5.

I hate to ruin everyone’s excitement, but the Behind The Sims Summit Stream Event revolved around new ways to revamp The Sims 4.

The Sims 5 wasn’t mentioned once in the live stream.
