One way to level up your Sim’s skills is to have them read books on a specific skill. There are times when Sims will refuse to read skill books. They quickly become bored and keep putting those books away.

Here’s what you can do to convince stubborn Sims to read books.

Sims won’t read or finish reading books

Spam the “Read book” button

Being persistent typically pays off. Keep making your Sim pick up skill books and read them. If they’re stubborn, you may need to spam the read button to get the job done.

Hit the “Read book” button six times in a row. When there’s only one command waiting, give your Sim five more commands for reading.

When they stop reading, get a new book. Repeat the steps above to get them to finish reading a new book without putting it down.

Cue up another action

Have your Sim read a skill book, and immediately cue up another action. This should make them complete the first task without pausing.

Unlike the previous solution, you don’t need to fill up their queue. Adding another action should do the trick.

Ensure Sims understand what they’re reading

Sims with low-level skills can’t read Level 3 skill books. If they can’t understand what they’re reading, they’ll quickly become bored and stop reading.

Make sure your Sims are reading the right books for their skill level. Level 1 books are for skill levels 1-4. Level 2 books are for skill levels 5-7, and Level 3 books are for skill Level 8-9.

Do an activity

If you can’t use skill books to max out your Sim’s skills, this means you need to do an activity. Put your Sim’s skills to practice and gain the experience required to max out their skills.

Conclusion

If your Sims won’t read skill books, hit the “Read book” button six times in a row. You can also have your Sim read a book, and immediately cue up another action. If you can’t max out your Sim’s skills by reading skill books, do an activity.
